It'd be nice to find a guy with UT ties, but it's one of the least important factors.

Thank you. Because someone has UT connections does not in itself mean he will be successful. That has been such an overrated thing these past few weeks.

Ideally Pruitt could BUILD those connections. And I'm not sure why loyalty would be an issue. What's he gonna do, mail it in from the start?

If Pruitt does well here and then leaves because he isn't loyal to UT, isn't that an overall good thing? Wouldn't it mean the program is in a better place than it is now, and a more attractive destination?

If 2012 proved anything at all, it's that Tennessee is incapable of handling another head coaching hire.
Vol fans are indeed passionate, but just can't get the UT admin on the same page, a problem all the way back to the Fulmer daysk:

Terrible take. Go do a little research on the guy. Do a little research on Tucker while you're at it. Defense wins in this league. Pruitt was ranked 2nd in total defense this year, Tucker ranked 6th total defense. UT was way down the list at 81st. If you don't understand that this job is still a rebuild then you're a fool. These guys need a solid year, if not 2, in a good strength and conditioning program to compete. And you're scoffing at 2 DCs at programs that we didn't score an offensive point against. Let the results speak for themselves before you judge. Let's not forget that Michigan made a splash hire and are overpaying for a homerun hire that finished 4th in their own division. UT needs solid football coaches not splash hires. Rick Barnes is proving that now.

If I'm Tee, there's no way you get me out of SoCal as OC for a lateral in Knoxville, working for a guy I don't have much of a relationship with as HC who just got elevated from being a coordinator. A couple of hundred grand more won't get me to make that move. You want me to take a crap shoot on Pruitt being a success while poisoning the well for me being HC at my alma mater if he's not??? How did those last 2 Head coaches work out for us? Dooley was even an AD & HC & Butch was a HC at several schools, and neither one of them could coach worth a lick.

Most of the Top HC today were DC or OC when they were hired as HC, even Fulmer.

Then let's talk about Pruitt's time at FLST and UGA. Won a NC at FLST with a 2nd rank total defense. At UGA he had 17th ranked in 2014, and jumped 10 spots the following year to 7th. Now has Bama ranked 2nd. If you want argue numbers and stats that's fine, but your opinion on this does not matter. UT just finished 81st in total defense with 4 top 15 recruiting classes, and 2 of those being back to back top 5. Coaching matters, and good head coaches surround themselves with good coordinators, which seem to be what Saban and Smart have done.

Derek Dooley - was not a coordinator before he became a HC. Being a position coach under Saban is a lot different than being a coordinator. Dooley should have never been nothing more than a WR's coach at any program.

Sal Sunseri - should have been nothing more than a linebackers/defensive line coach. He had no business being a DC at any P5 school.

Jeremy Pruitt - DC at FSU, UGA, and Bama. If you can't see the difference here than I don't know what to tell you...
