There was a time when I thought he needed another year. Then I watched Alabama in the playoffs. They had a receiver that won a Heisman and they got the ball to him to make plays. At UT, going back to Kamera, it seems there is under utilized talent on the bench, and the coordinators don't use it. Doug Mathews said that against TA&M, Hyatt was targeted with one pass. The stubbornness to keep JG in the game (Our best chance to win) frustrated us Monday morning quarterbacks.
I actually think that new blood at coaching will be a huge positive. All along UT has had the infrastructure to "not be Vandy", however the longer we keep losing, the more it seems we are. Remember that Auburn game two trips to Jorden Hare ago? That's the only Pruitt win of significance. I was invited to sit in the skybox for 3 of the 5 home games this season. Why? The tickets were available via an acquaintance. Why were they available? 3-7 says it all. The owner of the tickets would not have renewed if Pruitt was still there. Keeping him around has let a lot out of the tires, that were almost flat from the last coach.
Will the next coach be any different? We all thought Battered Vol Syndrome was a thing of the past when Pruitt was new. I'm a homer and will have hope enough to have the blinders on for the first year - tell myself the new coach is the next Saban. But, the first Georgia State episode, I'm gonna bale pretty quick. Like you said Gunter... We need a little luck in this hire this time. We sure have missed it in the last 4.
Fulmer’s a huge reason we’re in this position in the first place. Good riddance. It’s a weird day and feels kind of sad. The timing is just awful to start completely over with a new A.D. and then get a new coach. I like Fulmer and there’s a lot of trust that needs to be gained that will be hard with a new AD.
The investigation has been going on since the weekend of the TA&M. Of course VolNation has also been in meltdown mode wondering if this firing was ever going to happen. I could be wrong, but at this point I believe the following: The administration was looking for an out. Whatever they spent in Lawyers fees was money spent well (If the settlement is considerable less than the buyout). The insiders did not leak this. What is the significance of that? I tend to think plan B (getting coach and new AD) has been running parallel to the investigation, and it may be very soon when something is announced. I can't help but think the hiring of Steele is significant in the "new order". That happened with knowledge that this was "going down".II was not advocating for him to start next year with the expectation he would turn it around, but that we could with less buyout go shopping in a better market for the next coach. Well, we have probably mitigate some if not all the coats, but at what cost to current and future Jimmy's and Joe's. That is TBD. Getting a new AD then a new coach is going to be complicated till we get answers from NCAA.
Does anybody know if Pruitt has reached a settlement agreement? If not, we won't know cost savings till we do or go to court. I hope we are beyond our guys think it meets for cause requirements, but have not heard one way or the other.
I guess we have a decent AD shopping list to choose from.
Does anybody have inside info on which coaching candidates the money folks like? If we eliminate most buyouts they will not be as important. Hope our new AD is on the same page.
Just hoping for all the stars to align quickly enough to slow down player losses you get with most any change. Quick and done is better.
Fired with cause, no buyout, along with 9 other coaches and recruiting staff.II was not advocating for him to start next year with the expectation he would turn it around, but that we could with less buyout go shopping in a better market for the next coach. I lost my faith in our clown show when we fired Fulmer with no plan in place to hire anyone. Then had to be reminded over and over that it sucks to be right.Well folks it happened. Now we wait to see how many players transfer, decommit and more importantly who replaces Fulmer and Pruitt.
In all seriousness, does anyone have any faith that TN can hire a competent AD whom in turn can hire a competent head coach?
I know I don’t.
