Pruitt explains why Jarrett Guarantano is still Vols' starter

Bailey should be the starter
We will see marked improvement from Bailey from one game to the next if he is given the opportunity...maybe even from one half to the next. JG is no longer improving. HB will be much much better than JG by the end of the year. If we stick with JG through the end of the year, we already know the outcome.

Worst thing is, clearly the younger guys are not making a good impression in practice. Either they stink worse or player development is beyond pathetic.

I absolutely refuse to believe that. A couple of weeks ago it was even said that bailey had only gotten like 11 snaps in practice all year. There no commitment to get them ready. There’s absolutely no chance in hell that all of our qbs have as bad of pocket awareness (and athleticism) as JG. Impossible. And even if they did such in practice, JG sucks in games where it matters the most. You’re giving Pruitt the benefit of the doubt here. The reality is for some crazy resin he’s dug his heels in and won’t change no matter how dumb of a decision it proves to be.

It isn't hard to figure out. The other upperclassmen have a career completion pct in the 40s(JG is in the 60s) and are not mobile. Bailey isn't ready. Like it or not JG is the best option.

Although I would disagree with some of what you said, even if that was 100% true, those are not the reasons being stated by the coaches. At least your version sounds like an attempt to rationalize. Would be progress at this point.

I guess in Pruitt's way of thinking since Ky only got a fg out of Shrout's INT that is wasnt near as impressive as JGs 2 Pick 6s!

"Look, aight, Jarrett is the most efficient scoring QB in UT history, aight, possibly the history of the world even. I mean, every time he rares back and zips the tater, we know it's six points for somebody, aight."

Is this K-towns apt account?

Maurer absolutely is mobile. JG is not mobile.

Are there any legitimate QB gurus for hire? I've always felt that TN has lacked QB development for some time now.

The ONLY REASON that JG is the QB is that when he came out of High School, he was very HIGHLY RECRUITED and in order for him to come to Tennessee (from New Jersey), we had to give his FAMILY "the bag", so now that he is really bad still and in his 5th year, and WE ALL KNOW THIS, but his family has probably THREATENED Tennessee administrators that if yall bench him. then we (his family) will go to the NCAA and tell EVERYTHING. So, we basically have to bite the bullet until this season is OVER and he is gone. All this scenario is: "Somebody has somebody" by the ??? Pruitt is NOT that stupid but his hands are TIED from the previous staff giving up the bag to JG's family.....im pretty sure. As the staff knows how late he is on ALL of his passes, how he can't read a defense, how he fumbles the ball in crucial situations, how he has no pocket awareness, how he stares down his receivers.....TRUST ME, they see all of this on film

Bailey should be the starter
Based on?

I think it is time to move on from JG. I think even if the next guy falls flat on his face and UT has to make Salter their starter next fall... UT should move on from JG. But there really haven't been the number of rave reviews of HB that you might expect of a 5* who is ready to step in.

Again, I would love to see him rather than JG but see nothing to base "he should be the starter" on.

Uh... and Trump met with Putin to fix the 2016 election too?

Jones and Guarantano's father were friends from way back. Jones actively marketed JG to the recruit evaluators at Rivals, 247, et al because Jones thought it was really important to "look good" on NSD. He believed, with some merit, that if you finished high in the recruiting rankings then more highly ranked players would listen to your pitch. If you want an indication of why that's true... JG was rated the #1 "dual threat" QB in his class. He did not post big running stats in HS. It was illusion.

I do not know that someone didn't pay them... but it wouldn't have taken that to land him at UT.

Sort of like when you said it took JG until his SR year to throw 2 TDs against UGA.
It was RS SO year my bad...it was SR for Bama....eithet way up till bama they had the same TD vs UGA and Bama and BM did it in his 1st year not 3rd

Whatever, that's his reasoning and it's not changing.

My big question is why when games are clearly decided and it's garbage time, Guarantano is still out there? Has any QB this season other than JG gotten more than one series in a game? UK & UGA each provided the opportunity to play someone else for at least a couple series. The Bama game basically had a full quarter that the other 3 could get experience. Yet by my memory JG got almost all of those snaps. My guess is practice is the same with JG getting almost all the 1st team snaps so it's no surprise no one else is getting better.

I think their excuse in keeping JG in was to give him confidence. A lame excuse.

I love when people claim JG is mobile. He might’ve clocked a decent 40, but #’s don’t mean anything when you play slow. 99% of the time he plays slow, thinks slow, etc... The one thing I’ll say about Maurer is that he plays fast and decisive. People always want to throw the 2/5 ratio and completion %, but I know what I saw and his mistakes are correctable. I’d like to see him have the opportunity to correct those fixable mistakes.

Devils advocate here but maybe the younger ones aren’t ready because they got zero practice this year. I know they have had practices but Bailey missed Spring and a lot of Fall workouts, Maurer missed a lot of time due to injury. I’m not saying JG is the QB I want but at the same time, experience is experience. I wish they would play Bailey to get him some game experience and say to hell with JG but clearly that isn’t the case, which is sad.

If we had a coaching staff that was even on par with Kentucky's they would develop some sort of an offense that could at least pose a threat to a decent team, heck they made a wr into a decent qb. There is simply no imagination with this coaching staff, it is the most vanilla offense.

Pruitt's reasoning (probably): "Well, #2 put points on the board with them two throws."

Want to know how to fail in life as a leader or manager? Try to do every job, for everyone, all the time...because you don't trust or respect the folks being paid to do the job, (CJP has no idea how to be a leader or the concepts of leadership.) The ship has sailed on CJP.

That’s something that a lot of head coaches have to figure out. Most of the time, they got there by calling plays and they have a hard time letting that go.

Only explanation I've seen that makes sense
