why does everyone have a problem with this? if we were in the same boat we'd want him to stay and help the kids win a natty right?

also and maybe even more important to us... the more he is mentioned or shown on tv the better it looks for UT right now

The guy is probably smart enough to handle multiple things at once. I have a feeling he wants his transition to be as smooth as possible and will be wearing an orange power T hat as much as he is wearing a crimson A hat during the next few weeks. Relax.
that sounds good.

but it is more about principle really.

it's just not a good look. i'm for this hire, i'm going to back pruitt, and i think he can can be successfull.

but its TN/Bama. it's a bad look.

Shows loyalty Amirite? Just not to us.

Shows loyalty to the players he has coached the last two years. As much as coaches move around these days they don't have loyalty to a school as much anymore as the did back when. They do have loyalty to the players though. What Jimbo Fisher did imo was a crappy thing to do. Not to the school but to the players. Pruitt is done recruiting for Bama. He can recruit for us and assemble a staff while he is there. Not to mention how many times will it get mentioned that he is our new coach on national tv especially if his defenses play lights out.

It will be interesting to see how they explain this at the press conference especially with Dec. 20th on the horizon. One would hope that he would start recruiting for UT right away as we need to put together a decent recruiting class.

I have no problem with it. Won't mind seeing Pruitt on the TV in the playoffs with the commentators talking about him being UTs coach....especially if the Bama defense shines. Let's be honest, if a guy is going to be a head coach in the SEC, he'd better be able to multitask. He can prep for the playoffs as well as recruiting for us instead of Bama. Recruiting is a 24/7 job. Just a matter of who he's recruiting to now. If he's looking to grab some others for the Bama staff, he's right there and able to discuss the jobs with them. Last I heard, we have phones, the internet, etc. He can work on his staff while prepping for the games. Just not as big a deal as folks are making it out to be.

One other thing....he's showing loyalty to his players by not bailing on them when they're on the verge of something special. That will only help recruiting. Kids will know this coach has their back and truly does put them first.

First it shows where his loyalty is

Second, don't you think everybody can do something better if focused on one thing rather than two?!!!

If he wants to recruit and represent UT while still working for the Bama Bugger Eaters, then wear a UT hat on the sideline of their game.

if you want silver lining, it doesn't sound like he will be recruiting for Bama, just fulfiling coaching duties. hopefully he'll do what Kirby did and raid/plunder the class and staff.

Until Clemson hangs 40 on his defense.

Not at all okay. Kirby didn’t move to a rival. Bama is our rival. You can’t be actively working towards giving Bama a title as the Vols coach.

I do not like the guy for doing this.

LOL and people are welcoming him with open arms. “Erm, yeah, I’m super excited to be getting a huge raise and I look forward to eventually being your head coach but..uhhh... yea I’ve got some stuff to do. See you in mid-January?”

What's your career trajectory been so far? Have you ever worked out a notice with your then-current employer when changing jobs?

Construction (low responsibility): little expectation.
Corporate (more responsibility): much more expectation
high $$$ salary (LOTs of $$$ and responsibility): expectations?

That Clemson Alabama game will be interesting. IMO it will NOT be a rout. More of like last year. Winner takes the game by 10 points or fewer. I hope Clemson wins to deny Satan another title and then how many more chances does he get?? The playoffs this year will be interesting!!

Hope Pruitt's D plays an outstanding game...
While Bama's O gives up 6 turnovers and the championship...
Saban loses the NC and his DC at the same time...
What's not to like?!

A bad look? I'm honestly asking, since I may have missed something...

Finishing what you started... Living up to previous obligations as you form new ones... Staying to the end with the kids you've been developing and making promises to all season...

That's a "bad look"?

Is it a general ethical/moral issue for you? Or just a "bad look" within the context of base jealousy within a college football rivalry?

There's no real way this plays out well for either party. Conflict of interest is a real thing. If Clemson hangs 40 on them, the story lines about a distracted DC aren't going to go away. When TN loses on Mays and others during the early signing period, there's going to be mutterings about how we punted another year to help Bama. Even if he does focus on UT and flips some recruits and staff from Bama, the stories aren't going to be particularly flattering unless they win the NC on pure defense.

There was no early signing period 2 years ago. We have Cade and Alonte who where the foundation of the class and EE's by the way, uncommitted at the time. So, this is an entirely different situation. Especially for us, who cares about UGa or Bama's classes.

But you still had to enroll. Wouldn’t that be a waste of time as an athlete? I don’t see much difference in signing in all of it.

If our last coaches hadn't have sucked so badly, they would have been multitasking as well. They'd have been recruiting and preparing for a bowl game. So, maybe it's not as big a deal to prepare for the playoffs while recruiting for UT?

I will give our fanbase a bit of grace here. Maybe we just need to get used to having decent coaches.

Totally agree. And if he misses out on the better assistants because he is not able to concentrate on building his staff until January - that will be another sore spot.

Working both sounds fine on paper - but Saban will want him to be 100%, Tennessee will want him to be 100% - no way he can do that - so he is either 50/50 or one side loses.
