I’ll be happy to pick up his contract. Any of you fellers work for the bank, food city? I’m available to be your pitchman. Just say the word.

Fulmer struggled with all of that early in his career. I think Coach is improving every week with the shows. He's an intense football coach during season, especially his 1st year but he shows a sense of his humor every so often. I think he's handled the media perfectly to this point. Not many can control the conversation with Finebaum, CJP is 2 for 2 now on his show and was a big hit media days this past summer! He also gets paid a bunch of $ to promote a 100 million dollar company!

We said the same abuot Butch

I think Butch worked very hard- it just wasn’t enough. I think he gave it his best. Dude could recruit and worked hard all year. Which actually won him some games. He was underwhelming as a X/O guy and in terms of developing guys but won some games despite that flaw. When we won it was due to the talent and not because of his game plan. he was just woefully enept in a lot of areas. Hard work wasn’t one of them.

yes, it's what coaches do and he is well compensated for his time
It’s not like he’s being told to climb poles in the rain and work with 10 thousand volts. It’s easy to sit a minute and talk to dummy’s. That’s when he’s recharging his battery. Then it’s right back to what he does best. Coaching em up. GBO

The commercials are all filmed during the spring and summer. The coaches typically knock out all of them in one day. Pruitt went to First Tennessee, WVLT and WIVK/WNML all in one day to knock out everything in the late spring. He did the Farm Bureau a few days later at the complex.

His contractual responsibilities are roughly the same as every other school. Even Nick Saban sits down for a coaches show and a weekly call-in radio show. The Vol Network portion of his contract is more than a third of his salary. He may not look happy all the time, but he'll never argue with doing it.
You are correct on all points except one...He DID express his displeasure about the times/amount of time it took to shoot all those things (I agree with him) and he and Steve had a discussion about it and kind of a disagreement but Steve did what he had to do (went to Phil) and Phil told JP he HAD to do it when and however much time it took (and whenever IMG could schedule it) if he wanted the contractual money and that pretty much ended the conflict...and things seem to be going more smoothly now...Jeremy DOES NOT like the spot light at all and it will take him some time to balance it all...actually I think he's doing much better with it now....

I would submit to Volnation we got kind of spoiled with Bruce Pearl...he may be the best I've seen at doing all the promo type stuff and made it look smooth because he really enjoyed it...Most football coaches for some reason seem to really struggle with the PR end of the business...

Pruitt was born and raised to only do a few things, do them well and work very hard to constantly get better at them.

1...Coach football.

2...Learn how to deal with and talk to players and their families.

3...Teach kids how to play football really well and grow into good, intelligent people that learn how to respect everyone.

There's a few things he totally HATES...That's losing, a game or a good recruit, People not caring and giving their best efforts to make themselves better when he knows they can become much better and working hard to live up to the required standards that are set for himself and everyone else.

Pruitt really doesn't like all the press and the limelight, the interviews, and the shows he must do per his contract.

He's really not comfortable doing those things but he's learning and will get better as time goes along but it will still be time spent that he'd rather spend recruiting or working with his staff and his players to help them and our programs keep learning and getting better.

Pruitt has been taught and trained by some very good head coaches in high school and at UGa, Florida State and by nick saTan at alabubba and you can bet that at every stop he picked their brains and learned all he can from all of them and since he hates to lose he's going to give his all for Tennessee and he'll demand and expect the same efforts from his staff and players.

Now it's up to all of us to make him, his staff and their families feel welcome, respected and loved and to let all of them know that we want them as part of our Tennessee family for many years to come.

We finally have a really good HC and staff so we want them all to stay on the hill and get us back to Championships.

Pruitt and his staff are well trained and ready so now we need to support them and give them ample time to build us back into a top Championship program where we all know our Vols belong.

VFL...GBO!!!

Not like he is shoveling coal all day for 10 bucks an hour. I am sure he will be ok making a few commercials and appearances may not like it but certainly not that physically demanding and the pay is tremendous.

I wish I could watch CJP's show, we can't get it here in southern Illinois. I wish the SEC Network would pick up the coaches show for each school and show them during the week following a game. That way, even if the network put a coaches show on at an inconvenient time, those interested could at least DVR it and watch it whenever they had time. Oh well...

CJP is doing what every other HC does in a Power 5 program. The contracts that they sign require that they meet certain PR requirements including things like Vol Calls, half-time comments, press releases, etc. Some coaches enjoy those things while others do not. That is why a lot of coaches look annoyed and tired at those events. They are tired because they work 18 hour days sometimes taking care of their program, and they are required to make press appearances. I think that it is important for the fan base to see and hear from the coach on certain issues. That being said, not all questions are created equal. He shouldn't be wasting time with pointless questions, but he does need to talk to fans and the media. So it is a double edged sword, cant have one without the other.

He does look like he's being interrogated for most of them. He almost has to be prompted to say positive things too. It just isn't his bag. He seems like an intense dude on sidelines also, but he appears to balance that with being a genuine coach.

Time with tell if he has the personality to juggle it all well.

My argument wasn't that he didn't know what was expected. I think he's more than fairly compensated as well. My argument was simply that our football program might be better served if we cut out all the extra stuff. I just don't see vol calls or the Jeremy Pruitt show really helping with recruiting or returning to national prominence.

With the amount of commercials I have seen Pruitt in and Vol Calls and the CJP show, does the university and its sponsors expect too much from our head coach? Are these kinds of things standard at other schools? Truthfully, I would rather Pruitt recruit or even get some family time than listen to him on Vol Calls answer questions about why he did not have a UT pin on his lapel at the last CJP show, or if he will recruit some kid from Johnson City - both questions I have heard while tuned in. Truthfully, I think the reason he seems so tired and frustrated on the shows is because he knows there are many ways he could be better spending his time to get the program closer to the level of UA and UGA. Are these things written into his contract? Truthfully, I would rather hear Fulmer on Vol Calls or the assistants could rotate. When work gets tough, I tend to cut the superfluous things from my life in an attempt to refine my focus on what is most important. At this point, it is game planning and recruiting that should be the priority and I would not be sad to see the extra activities eliminated from our head coach's schedule

In a word yes. Its just one of the things expected when you are the Head Coach and face of the prorgam at top tier program in a top tier conference.

Any word on how CJP feels about Knoxville? Hoping he and his family are starting to get settled in.
