With the amount of commercials I have seen Pruitt in and Vol Calls and the CJP show, does the university and its sponsors expect too much from our head coach? Are these kinds of things standard at other schools? Truthfully, I would rather Pruitt recruit or even get some family time than listen to him on Vol Calls answer questions about why he did not have a UT pin on his lapel at the last CJP show, or if he will recruit some kid from Johnson City - both questions I have heard while tuned in. Truthfully, I think the reason he seems so tired and frustrated on the shows is because he knows there are many ways he could be better spending his time to get the program closer to the level of UA and UGA. Are these things written into his contract? Truthfully, I would rather hear Fulmer on Vol Calls or the assistants could rotate. When work gets tough, I tend to cut the superfluous things from my life in an attempt to refine my focus on what is most important. At this point, it is game planning and recruiting that should be the priority and I would not be sad to see the extra activities eliminated from our head coach's schedule

I think Jeremy Pruitt looks tired when he's doing anything unrelated to his family or his football program. But whether he likes it or not, he's getting three million plus dollars from the University of Tennessee to sit in that chair and represent the school -- and I suspect he will continue to do so, and when the program is winning on a regular basis, might even pretend to enjoy doing so.

I have to agree with everyone else. The media and advertising aspects of the job are part of being a head coach at a major university. Everyone has to do it and they get paid a substantial amount of money above and beyond their salary to do them. It is part of what pays for their salary. I just don't think CJP likes doing anything that is not directly related to coaching.

What recruit is in Johnson City? Is there even a d1 recruit northeast of Greeneville?

I kind of agree. But i do like watching the show and listening to vol calls. He is expected to do all of those things. However it would be nice to have asst coach on vol calls or the Pruitt show. I think that would give a different viewing point and maybe get to hear a different side of everything.

The commercials are all filmed during the spring and summer. The coaches typically knock out all of them in one day. Pruitt went to First Tennessee, WVLT and WIVK/WNML all in one day to knock out everything in the late spring. He did the Farm Bureau a few days later at the complex.

His contractual responsibilities are roughly the same as every other school. Even Nick Saban sits down for a coaches show and a weekly call-in radio show. The Vol Network portion of his contract is more than a third of his salary. He may not look happy all the time, but he'll never argue with doing it.

Probably part of the job he doesn't care for. I doubt many coaches do. He's getting paid so i don't know. He's stoic and monotone for the most part. Other than Gundy and Leach not too many of them are a great interview.

money/contract aside...Coach Pruitt works as hard as any coach I've ever seen...in addition to "off-field duties" he is working on both sides of the ball...eventually, something has to give, just hope it isn't his health, mental or physical...;)

GO VOLS...BEAT TIGERS!

Coaches shows are typically recorded shortly after games, most of these coaches look worn out during them.

Pruitt signed on to be the face of the program. He needs to embrace all of it like it or not. Keeping donors and fans on his side will help out down the road.

If he wanted to just coach he could have gone the Chavis or Bud Foster route.

There was a time when John Ward was getting all of the commercials for the University of Tennessee because there was a state law in place at the time that didn't allow for the employees of the university to get endorsement money from outside sources. Meanwhile, all of the other SEC coaches were getting that money. I don't remember Coach Majors doing any commercials. Coach Fulmer didn't in the beginning. Remember Archie Manning doing the Yella Fella commercials in the mid 90's? "It's a disease Jimmy." That was because the coaches couldn't do those endorsements. Thank God we wised up on that!

The outside noise that is the Sunday tv show, the Monday press conference and the Wednesday radio show are necessary evils that CJP has to do. I wouldn't want to bet that he's getting much more than 30-35 hours of sleep a week during the season and through recruiting. And I surely don't mind hearing a coach talk rather than "Well Bob, you're exactly right." and whatever scripted deal the last coach had while he reran and ran 2 or 3 good plays over an over again. While we're on the subject, I can't believe people wait all week to call in to Vol Calls, stay on hold for whatever time and then ask the stupid questions that they ask. Come up with something better or don't call.

I want coach to 1) Be a family man 2) Be a football coach

Everything else is a waste of his time.

After Doug Dickey did a mattress commercial inside Neyland Stadium, all Tennessee coaches were restricted in their contracts from doing commercials except for companies with agreements directly with the university.

I agree with the mundane nature of Pruitt conversation, but he's a good listen because he has good insights. For example, today on Finebaum, he asked Pruitt about if he ever thought he'd beat two top 25 teams this year, and Pruitt said basically, "if we're going to win any games in this league we're going to have to beat some top 25 teams because most all are ranked". I think Finebaum a bit intimidated by Pruitt. One thing I like about Pruitt is when you do see him smile or show emotion, it's usually about a player who has bought in and is a leader and has effort and passion. That's why Pruitt wants to get Banks on the field...he'll have him molded into a top flight linebacker by the time he leaves UT.

Another thing, in regards to the coaches show, which can be difficult to watch at times with Kessling trying to pull info out of Pruitt, is his insights and admitting when he did something wrong. He was critical of a few plays, but then KY ripped off a couple long plays and Pruitt said "you know what, that was 100% my fault...I put them in the wrong call on those two plays." I never watched past the first coaches show with Dools or Butch, because they don't give you anything. You get insights into what coaches were thinking, watching Pruitt's show...so I'll keep watching.

I agree.

When Mike Shula was at Bama, bammers raised cain that he didn't participate in a Friday night pep rally on "the quad" and instead spent some time with his young children. (Somehow or another, I think they'd cut Saban a little more slack.)

I also remember being in Iowa on business one time in the 90s and the media was all up in arms because Hayden Fry was in a commercial for an auto dealership.

I'm sure he really enjoys Jethro's questions from Bull's Gap. Body language tells us all we need to know. The one raised eyebrow, shoulder shrugs, thumb lifts. Seems to imitate some of Saban's interviews.
