Pruitt CAN be fired, buyout not a problem

Honestly, I don't see Tennessee doing anything with the coaching staff (Pruitt). Back in the middle of August, Fulmer requested the coaching staff to sign an amendment to cut their salary by 15 percent. Barnes and Harper signed the amendment. Pruitt didn't have to since he delayed his new 400,000 pay raise to 2021. Plus, Pruitt just fired a coach who we will still pay. Butch come off the pay roll in Feb. of 2021. From looking at other news articles, Tennessee has 10 million in reserves. What shocks me is that there have been no comments from our Vice Chancellor / AD on the current situation. It's like he hid behind everyone like the coach in the movie "The Waterboy".

If you want to be Florida, Georgia, Bama ect you have to demand a level of success.
I’ve said that Mullin at Florida will find a way to lose a game or two a year he shouldn’t and it will keep him from winning championships. If I’m right Florida will fire him and get someone else. They have a championship standard there. We do not.

Mullin is several seasons away from a firing.

Unless he goes and dryhumps a shark or something impossible like that.

No HC worth their salt is going to come when they know they can go to a top tier school and start winning right now .

This is the reason we keep getting the bottom of the bucket .... why would Mullen, etc want to come to TN when other schools compete at a higher level and get all the best recruits .

He’d never make over 1 million a year as long as UT is paying him some buy out. Teams use that as a negotiating point for contracts, they just can’t admit to it.

Yep. He'd probably go to Bama and be their DC for $100K/year until the buyout expires.

That’s always easy to say when it’s not your money.

No it's easy to say when I know someone has more money than they will ever need so stop being greedy ****ing assholes. Besides. It's common ****ing sense that you have to spend money to make money. Literally a 101 of life.

Plus it is my money. And all UT fans who support the programs money. Soooo yeah

All you people that want to fire the coaches anti up the buy out are quit whining about it this is what we’ve got for at least two more years. Start the go fund me account and see where it goes.

Because he’s viewed as tainted by the decision makers. If we had not done the kiffen thing then maybe but unless there’s a real change at that level we will not be hiring freeze.
We Looked at him as a coordinator recently. The idea wasn’t well received by the university. I can’t believe they would suddenly think he could be the head guy.

Maybe after yesterday, and certainly after this season, I hope the University's position toward Freeze will change...Look at Pearl, he served his show cause and then Auburn quickly hired him, and they haven't looked back in basketball. Meanwhile, we wandered in the desert with Cuonzo, then Donnie T, until we LUCKED into Barnes.

Point is, Freeze is serving his 'sentence' at Liberty, and will soon be in high demand. Let's at least talk to him, get the conversation going and see if we can work something out. If not, then we can hire the fifth person that did not turn us down, and we can set the wheels in motion to do this again in 3 to 4 years.

Why do you all do this to yourselves? Pruitt is not getting fired this year. He will be shaking up his staff. I doubt he gets fired next year either.

Be interesting to see what coaches will come work for a 'dead man walking' head coach

Some of you need to just stop.
UT is not going to fire Pruitt this year. There are several reasons.
Contrary to what some of you said money is an issue. They don’t have enough money to pay all their employees so no way are they can pay all the buyouts. Some of you think money is going to magically appear if we hire a new coach. That is fantasyland.
There is no guarantee that we can hire a replacement that we really want. We have not done it the last three times so unless you are sure you can get your guy you can’t fire the guy you have. Every time we fire a coach after a few years it gets harder and harder to get the next one.

Abosuletly agree. You know how much money UT would make in the first season alone under Freeze? Lmao. MONEY IS A WEAK EXCUSE. PERIOD
Eh. Maybe in the last when they had the money but didn't want to spend it.

I legitimately do not think they have the money to pay Pruitt's buyout.

Hell, the entire purpose of the extension was to take financial pressure off of the AD in the short term.

We are THE UNIVERSITY OF TENNESSEE. Find the damn money from somewhere. Shouldnt be rocket science.

Wanted to post this and see what everyone thinks. If he's fired, there will be an offset for his income from another job. No way he sits around without someone (likely Bama) picking him up as DC at 1 million per year or more. That would knock it down quite a bit.

He's had massive turnover on his staff already and lost S&C guy. It seems that he is hard to work with and everything you hear is that he is stubborn. Playing JG is clear evidence of that.

It's obvious to rational people that it's not going to work. I hope we go ahead and rip the band aid and get it over with.
It would only reduce the buy out by 20-25%. Four years at $5 million is 20 million less 25% would still be $15 million. He is here for at least 2 more years and will likely get another extension after 2022. Realize he has played this year without a TE, and inside LB. a run of the mill QB, and hhis best athlete are true Freshmen and Sophomores. The best is in the next 2-3 years when his recruits have experience and are top quality recruits. Don't panic, it is going to get much better. By then we will also likely have upgrades in some assistant coaches. Now is not the time to start all over again and again and again.

Exactly. They'd make millions and millions alone from Hugh Freeze T shirt sales
I hadn't even thought about merchandise sales. Bandwagoners would come out of the woodwork if we hired Freeze because we would be kicking butt in short order.

Are the assistant upgrades and added players going to help him start to make basic, competent coaching decisions like kicking a FG to make it a one score game? Will they keep him from lying about his decision making in the press conference.Dude is a clown and doesn’t accept responsibility for his bad coaching decisions. Unfortunately we’re stuck with him because his boss is a bigger dummy than he is.

The point isn’t Mullin himself and if he’ll be fired. Nobody knows. The point is the difference in expectation from the university. Florida fans and administration want to win. Tennessee fans want to win. Tennessee admiration would be ok with winning but it’s just not that big a priority

What assistant in their right mind will leave their job to join a dead man walking that is abrasive, stubborn, and a micromanager?

I’m in agreement with you and I hope they (the administration) wake up but we’re 4 hires in and no signs of corrections

I'd settle for consistent competence at this point, but that's apparently also an impossible dream. Guess $4mil doesn't get us that.
