Saw this somewhere:
Pruitt Adjusts Practice Reps for Vols' Quarterbacks | Rocky Top Insider

Insanity is no longer cause as he is no longer doing the same thing and expecting a different outcome.

The power of the bench is now being applied. He might be showing that he has standards about the product he puts on the field.

All good signs.
During his presser today he said he was adjusting reps but later on answering questions he said all QB's get the same amount of reps with 1s.

He also said QB play had to improve....so if JG were to start he is going to be looking over his shoulder now as he should be....
I'm signing off if JG starts and not posting in the FF anymore until a change is made...but at least it looks like Pruitt may be getting his head on right and going to change QB's if they play poorly,,,,yeah...shouldn't have had to come to this just to change QB's,,,,,hopefully lesson learned

JG has done absolutely everything possible to deserve losing his starting spot. I seriously doubt Pruitt will be brave enough to start Maurer, though. I have a feeling JG will be starting every game this season, no matter how bad he is. He has blackmail material on the coaching staff or something.

I hope he changes QB's but who knows. Honestly we are all frustrated and any Vol fan still here on volnation and enduring the last decade are true vol fans even though we all don't agree. Can't say we are bandwagon fans.

Shrout would be best for right now imo. Maurer maybe after another yr in the weightroom to be able to muster the hits from being a running qb and to help his accuracy!
Fans go to games to be entertained and forget the weeks stresses...a little excitement if you may....so put either BM or Shrout in AFTER you have let them practice all week with the 1's....we want to see these kids develop in front of our own eyes...see if the coaches can really coach them up

JG has had several games to gain the confidence of the team, coaches, and fans. He has struggled to put it mildly.
Never understood Pruitt continuing to hand him the reins after a terrible ending to last year.
We all hoped the light would come on for JG and he would lead this team. Sadly, this never happened.
It’s time to give Mauer and/or Strout an opportunity to see what they can do.
For someone to preach competition as much as he does, Pruitt needs to be more consistent with the “competition” approach at QB as he does all the other positions.

This whole QB debacle is just another “new to head coaching” growing pain.

My theory (which seems to have some strong evidence to back it up through comments and reports) is that in practice, JG is miles ahead of the other two. Pruitt isn’t experienced enough to realize practice is not the end all, be all.

Y’all know who was an abomination in practice? Josh Dobbs. He caught fire when it was the real thing, Pruitt is having a hard time with this concept.

It feels like Pruitt is ready to yank JG, but is also not crazy about the idea of throwing a Freshman QB into the fire against a stretch that includes Georgia and Bama. I suspect JG remains the starter officially, but has a much shorter leash.

Meh, I doubt Pruitt is this naive. It's just that neither Shrout nor Maurer have particularly looked like a starting SEC QB either. From a pure QB play perspective, Maurer was worse than JG on Saturday. But JG's leadership and communication is terrible. Sure he's a better "passer", but the entire offense looks out of sync with him out there. With Maurer, he made a lot of terrible throws, but the offense actually seemed to be in sync. It's clear that Maurer is a better leader, inspirer, and communicator than JG, but his lack of experience as an SEC QB is also clear as he continually throws passes too low, stares down his receivers, and underestimates the speed of DBs.

It's "pick your poison." Feels like Pruitt is hoping he can get JG "right", but is also desperately trying to get Shrout and Maurer coached up so that one of them can potentially take over.

Biggest miss/mistake by Pruitt May have been his first recruiting decision. Adrian Martinez was a Vol and would be tearing it up right now in Orange.

We tried to get Martinez, but once Frost went to Nebraska, he was gone. Though, there is an irony to Butch Jones failing to recruit a single serviceable QB for nearly 5 years and then managing to find 2 (Martinez and Penix) in his last class. '

Pruitt was also sort of damned by the fact that JG played reasonably well through parts of last season (particularly vs Auburn / Kentucky / SC) so that no grad transfer was interested in coming here this season. We got Chryst last year and JG beat him out. If we had Chryst this year, you can pretty much guarantee he'd be the starter at this point.

It is difficult to think of too many SEC QBs that have regressed as quickly as JG has.

I have not seen anything from the other 2 QBs to think that they are the answer. Did you guys see something different or is it just that you want a change for better or worse?

Where is JGs biggest fan? I figured he would be on here telling us how that int was on Callaway
I'll step in for him!

Its not about winning or losing! Its about completion percentage and low TD/INT ratio!! The offensive line gives JG zero time! Its a team effort so you can't blame JG for those picks! JG set Maurer up for the FG just like he did Chryst in Bamas game last year!

IMO it's one of the biggest mistakes coaches make at every level and in all sports. I get coaches want, demand, and require players give their best at practice. For decades coaches use the carrot and stick in that the players best at practice play more. But there are a myriad of examples where kids that are practice warriors when the lights come on during the game, they fail on the field or court. The reverse is also true, there are many examples of where some players stink it up in practice if they show up on time but when the lights come on, they not only succeed but dominate. Coaches have a tough job trying to figure it out, but many a coach has been exposed when they have a kid riding the pine probably forever and due to circumstance MUST put in the kid they thought was a laggard and find out they have an All American on their hands who saves them. Ever heard a coach asked, "Where you been hiding this kid?" Michael Jordan got cut from his high school team. You never find these types if you never let them on the field.

At least part of Coach Pruitt's problem is that he has to evaluate his QB choices vs our own defense. Since our own defense isn't all that much...when we come up against a REAL defense..all of those practice reps go out the window. At this point, IMHO...Maurer appears to be the best choice to at least give a try to. Give him a majority of practice reps with our 1's for the next 2 weeks, give the kid the start and see how it goes. At this point...what have we got to lose..??? It's pretty clear that we don't have an SEC level quarterback on the roster at the moment. Unless a transfer is out there...dying to be a Vol...Coach Pruitt's only option is to try to develop one with the young men he has to work with.

“How you practice is how you play.” I’ve heard that from the first day I ever played any sport and I continue to preach it in the youth sports that I coach now. The only exceptions I see are when players regress during games, usually because of nerves, it makes the other players look better. Players don’t suddenly remember plays, get faster, or get stronger at games.

He passed on Kelly Bryant that transferred from Clemson to Missouri. I guess he thought JG was going to be serviceable. If Bailey drops us he needs another grad transfer to compete/backup against Hill.
