We got torched a great QB and our secondary scorched for ... you guessed it another player reaching a Career high in passing yards. With our defensive minded staff how did we not plan differently for this (as we knew it was coming) against an air raid system? We do have personal limitations but I just thought with Pruitt calling plays and with this staff it would be slightly less yards given up. what did you all think?

I was surprised too. Secondary can get better. I'm afraid the DL and LBs are what they are.

The coaches can coach and teach, but can the players learn. Set aside the fact that most are new to playing time (freshmen etc.) Whats left over on the whole defense just are not very good SEC caliber players. How the hell have we gotten to this point. Now don't start telling me about "stars." I just don't think our former staff did much work evaluating talent, just looked at "stars". I hope we can attract better talent in the future, but it may be tough when kids look at what they will be up against when wanting to come to on a winning program. I see a lot of time in the wilderness before we once again bask in the sunlight.

Hating to single a player out;but,Abernathy, missed several tackles again, got beat or missplayed some passes to extend their drives.A top-flight passinggame against us.Some of the frosh played well for game one. We'll see by game four what we have improved on and how we look.

it Stems from when Kiffen left and we started the downfall with coaches who had no clue how to recruit players of SEC caliber. Our tank is empty and we’re working with what we have. I expect in Pruitt’s 3rd to 4th year we will be pretty darn good

Sometimes it just comes to down to having the Jimmy's and Joe's to execute the X's and O's.

It’s pretty simple either stick it out and endure till he can turn things around or find another team. I for one will stick with my VOLS. Does it suck, absolutely we’re all tired of the “wait till next year” jokes but that’s just The reality of where we are at as a team

Came down to one on one coverage and we failed in this game. The throws were right on the money some of the DB's could not prevent separation and thus a bad outcome. DL usually makes the difference getting penetration and disrupting the QB and were definitely not anywhere near where we need to be right now. I consider the DL the weakest part of the team and are definitely a big part of the secondary woes as you give a very good QB time he can make the plays especially with the WR's they had on the field today.

Our DL was soft and had no push, and minimal pressure. Here’s my thought, they practice against our OL all camp their soft too. It’s the old iron sharpens iron adage. Until we get some draft horses on the OL well never have bulls on DL.

Freshmen DB's against a fifth year senior and excellent receivers. The DB's that did play that weren't freshmen are the same ones being torched last year. Why did anyone think 15 or so practices would fix that? I saw both good and bad. I guess if we pound on the cupcakes the next couple of weeks, many will be claiming we will win the SEC. Strangest bunch of people I have ever seen that post on here.

I blame LB more than DL, but on quick routes, hard to get pressure in time to disrupt. Grief switched to quicker throws in the 2nd half. It is on the DB to keep up and stay in position to knock it down. They didn't. As they get more experience and start thinking less and just playing more, I hope to see them look faster out there.

During Pruitt’s press conf introducing him as coach one thing he said that I loved was our corners will be aggressive and in press coverage no more 10 yards off, well the lights came on and he chocked he went right back to corners 10 yards off

If you pay attention to our recruiting, we now know why Pruitt already has 5 DB's committed and 5 Defensive linemen. He knew before we played that we were in trouble at these positions. Our guys will get better. 90% of the SEC had practice games this weekend and we were thrown into a real game. Let's see how much we can progress by Florida.

Didn’t they basically stay in max protect the whole time? When you stay in max protect it’s because you feel like the opposing DB’s can’t match up with your WR’s.

In this case that was correct. There’s only so much we can do if our DB’s are just horrendously matched up and they keep everyone home to protect the QB.

Agree 100% he knew where we lacked talent and that’s what he’s going after. This guy will be a good coach. He just needs pieces to his puzzle and right now we just do not have them. He’s playing the best we have and unfortunately in this league it is not enough. We will improve but don’t expect huge things this year.

Shy Tuttle & Kongbo are both busts. I expected Warrior to be better than he played as well. Anything that was attached to Butch Jones is just complete trash.

We could not get to him even with an all out blitz. A lot of dlinemen on the ground all day.

Thank God their backup QB didn’t come in or it would’ve really been bad

We don’t have the athletes to compete with the elite athletes we faced yesterday and the ones we will play once we start SEC play.

DB fails occurred at eyeblink speed. They were close to being ready for play but just not quite there, yet. mho

A buddy of mine was telling me how good the O-line was in practice, they were tearing our D-line up. I saw why yesterday. The D-line is so bad it made our O-line look like the Cowboys O-line.

The few times we actually did get some pressure on Grier, he rarely made a play. Our guys just got to be more disruptive. And the secondary, ugh - on coverage I cant tell you how often they could have had a chance at the ball if they had just looked back.
