I want to keep what we had, adding Texas to the SEC West and Oklahoma to the East. Add the extra game and go.

( SEC games means 8 more SEC losses distributed throughout the SEC...likely to cost the SEC one less team in the CFP...if guarantee 4 teams in it still only helps the Big 10....
I only care about two things: Tennessee winning and having compelling, competitive football to watch. If we miss a playoff because of 9 SEC games, we didn’t really deserve to compete for a championship. We will have shot ourselves in the foot somewhere along the way against a team that we should have beaten

The 9 game schedule and cross over Big Ten game are tied to the 4 automatic playoff bids.

16 team conference plays 8 games. 18 team conference plays 9 games. We get the same representation when choosing who makes it to the conference championship game.

There is discussion the "championship" game will become a CFP play in game.

For example, if there are 4 guaranteed SEC teams in the CFP, that Atlanta game would pit the 4th and 5th place teams in the SEC to see who gets the last guaranteed CFP spot.
The more I hear about this, the more I like it. I’m sure UGA would’ve definitely taken that after the Beck injury. If you’re gonna give the top 2 seeds a guaranteed bye and a home CFP game there’s not as much intrigue. If you get Bama vs USCjr or Bama vs Ole Miss as a play in game that’s gonna be a war.

I like this idea!! Makes for a much more compelling game then seeing if Texas or Georgia is going to get a first round bye rather than bama playing USC to see who gets to ne the #10 seed in the playoff. Now that they have seeding in order of finish for the CFP, if you have #1 ranked Uga playing #4bama each one guaranteed a bye or whatever starters will sit and the SEC championship game became 1000x less prestigious to win. Coached and players playing the long game like basketball march madness programs like duke don’t really care about ACC tourney wins it’s about final fours and nattys

I think you have to go to more conference games if you want to kill of the championship game for a play in game option.

are we comfortable not having an SEC champ, or relying on some really dumb tie breakers coming into play, up to and including letting Birmingham choose?

Would be more entertaining if they gave the top 2 teams an automatic bid and have #3 vs #6 and #4 vs #5 for the other two automatic bids.

I’m a proponent of the 9 game season bc not only does it give you the opportunity to play more teams in the conference on a very regular basis, but you get the opportunity to play a tough OOC game w/ a B1G team. I understand the pushback on the SEC and B1G each having 4 AQ teams, but I also think if you had a 2 weekend showcase of the SEC vs B1G would be great for college football and the fans, plus it potentially helps out your seeding for the CFP .

They should already have 4x 4 team divisions but the plan is almost certainly to expand. 4x 5 team divisions makes a lot of sense. Play 4 in your division every year and 2 of the 5 in each of the others on a rotating home and away schedule. Or just go to 24 each in the SEC and BIG10.

Stop stealing from fans with the UT-Martin, Austin Peay, Texas Arlington, WKU, etc. farces of games.
We have some really selfish fans!

First, those cupcake games are nice to have for MANY reasons. First, prices are usually down for tickets, so that means those with families and kids can actually take them and not have to take a 2nd mortgage out. Sometimes that’s the kids first game and they become lifelong Vols fans.

2nd it gives other players actual playing time. So instead of busting your butt for years and not getting a 2nd of playing time, they actually get some playing time in. It’s good for the players and it’s good for the cupcakes scheduled because sometimes that is a lot of their athletic budget each year. It’s like our fans have no common sense or anything but selfishness!

So you’re saying that I’m dumb and selfish for not being on board with those thrilling matchups with Chattanooga, Kent State, UTEP, Austin Peay, San Antonio, UConn, Ball State, Akron, and UT Martin in the last three seasons? Dumb? BTW… a “2nd” of playing time?

Prettt much! Complete selfishness to not see the good those games do for a lot of people, except for yourself! So yep, hammer meet nailhead! As far as the 2nd, not sure why it corrected to that except maybe since I had used it already. But yes, it gives guys playing time that otherwise might not ever see a second of playing time for a team they bust their butts for. All so that you can get better matchup to watch. So yes, dumb and selfish is not a great way to go through life! But you do you! I love the fact they played UTC and got to take my son for his first game, since the team has sucked most his life I thought maybe he would never have the love I do for the team. Thankfully I could afford the tickets for it and my Alma mater UTC can continue playing football because they got a good chunk of change to keep the doors open. But hey, let’s all be THUNDER here and only care about myself but also bitch and complain when those tough games turn into losses and TN misses playoffs and such.

Really not as much chance of missing a chance at a title anymore with a heavier schedule as most good teams will make the playoffs. Con is with a more difficult schedule there’s less opportunity to rest players and more potential for injury imo against tougher opponents

Stop posting. You’re devaluing UT-C degrees.

What is the point in playing 9 conference games? We already have tougher strengths of schedules than the Big 10. How are we getting better parity by making SEC schedules tougher? Big 10 is supposed to be the ones who need to catch up.
