A friend of mine worked for him in a grad/asst type role and said he was the nicest guy he's ever met.

Treated everyone the same from Bud Foster to the guys that cleaned the locker room

as a 60 something yr old person who has spent 90% of his life in VA, i had one complaint about him...he did not have a very disciplined program in his early years...his players ran wild at times and were frequently in the news.....but there is nothing to do in blacksburg...campus was in the middle of nowhere.....IMO.

Beamer is one of the most overrated coaches in the history of the game. Folks that think he should be a legend probably think similarly about Butch.
