If he returns in true form, he's going to be a menace. A lot of people forget how badly he shredded teams in 2014.
219 carries 1547 yards
As a FRESHMAN. That's tough to argue with, if he's fully recovered from his injury.
I wonder if McCaffrey will be another Toby Gerhart in the NFL
There is no doubt, it is a make a break year for McCaffrey. He opens the season as THE man for Stanford. His QB last year carried that designation and half the season was gone before the freshman got a lot of focus. Let's see how he handles this season.
I think Kamara is going to have a 850 yard 7 yard per carry season.
Oh and Hurd is going much higher. First season with a real oline...
1. Fournette
2. Chubb
3. Cook
4. Hurd
5. McCaffrey
Would kill to see the Falcons pick up Hurd in round 2. After taking Barnett in round 1
This is the strongest runningbacks class in 20 years.
WalterFootball.com: 2017 NFL Draft: Running Back Rankings
Stay another year to play behind a senior, deep oline, and be a top 3 back in the 2018 draft.
At the next level, other than 1 or 2 each draft, RBs don't get paid anything like they used to. The game today is such that very few premier backs bring near the value they once did. Teams get greater value from two 3rd & 4th rounders than a single 1st round pick.
It's also a short-lived position. They look at it now like a pitch count: you can only take so many hits in a career. Playing in the SEC takes a heavier toll than most conferences.
So if a junior RB understands the passing game, runs good routes out of the backfield, can move into a receiver's position effectively, and understands the complexities of pass blocking... he really needs to go get paid while he can.
It's an individual decision, but Alvin's extra year in college would have to be worth (to him) at least a season of being paid to play. Once the university has prepared a young man to go make a living, we need to thank him and encourage him to go begin his career. That's another aspect of being a VFL.
