Proof - By rule we actually won this game (merged)

Dooley should come out and say he himself is appealing it. We have a LEGIT shot of it actually being overturned.

I feel like there needs to be a riot and lock out until the NCAA is disbanded. From rules, and referees, to the way bowl games and rankings are decided. It is completely out of hand and illogical.

It doesn't seem like anything will be done until we pillage and burn everything they stand for :)

IMO the outcome will never change; however, I plan to hang on to this memory.

The later it gets, the angrier I become. I am SICK of moral victories. I am ready for some "eye of the tiger, shiz". Lets get f'in even...

Also the fact that the referee signaled game over. And the fact that it should have been a 15 yard penalty rather than a 5 yard.

UNC was flagged for illegal participation or too many men on the field which defers to delay of game, for some odd reason, which is a five yard penalty.

Illegal participation would have been 15yds...But this is why college rules should be the same as NFL on this...A 10 second runoff for the penalty would have solved the problem....

Quit crying. There was clearly a second left on the clock. If you have to complain, complain about a missed extra point that wins the game regardless. Complain about Janzen Jackson launching himself at the receiver like a circus act. Complain about the offensive coaching not running the ball until the last 1:50 of the ball game. There are plenty of reasons this ballgame was given to UNC. A last second review is far from the cause.

I can't believe I am actually reading all of this. This brings me back to last night and how pissed I was at the end of the game. I can't believe this happened TWICE to us!!! We should appeal and see what happens.

I hope we remember these feelings and carry that into next year and play with a chip on our shoulder and more swagger!!

GO VOLS! :loco:

Winning Team and Final Score
ARTICLE 3. a. The teams shall be awarded points for scoring according to
rule and, unless the game is forfeited, the team having the larger score at the
end of the game, including extra periods, shall be the winning team.
b. The game is ended and the score is final when the referee so declares

this is straight from the rules book and the ref did declare game over... cheated

Was this quote written before reviewing plays was instituted? Every play is reviewed BY RULE, when this play was reviewed, the ball was spiked with one tick left on the clock (correct call IMO)

We lost because of the stupid mistakes we made at end of this game... and because we do not have enough of a running game to run 1:56 off the clock? END OF STORY :wavey:

The way I understand this, a team only needs a center and qb lined up to snap the ball and spike it. It doesn't matter where the rest of the players are because the penalty won't keep the clock running. The result is a 5 yard penalty and the clock is stopped.

Why even try to line up properly? There is no incentive to do so. I can not comprehend how this is the correct interpretation of the NCAA rules. If so, they MUST be changed.

The rules are clearly defined, and yet the outcome is inconsistent with said rules. Dooley was pleading this case at the end of regulation to no avail. I would love to see the NCAA develop some integrity and override the decision of the officials, however, wouldn't it appear as if Tennessee were just crying over the game not going our way. The domino effect of an appeal would be something which would be more costly in the areas of public perception and recruiting. Not to mention we are still in the cross hairs of an NCAA investigation. I was really okay with the UNC decision for next year, however, now I would LOVE to walk into their pathetic excuse of a stadium and kick their ---. With the bitter taste the coaches and players have right now, we can guarantee a victory. If they thought Tennessee traveled well to this game because it was in state, then it would be great to paint chapel hill orange for a rematch. IMO

Big Ten Refs getting even for the SEC embarrassing the mighty Ohio St. so many times in the past several years. Sadly, Hamilton will not do anything about it

For what it's worth, there aren't any provisions for replay officials relating to this rule even in the most current rule book.

Will someone please give me a recap of what happened after UNC failed to convert on 4th down with less than 2 minutes left in the game? Just what happened from that time until say :30 left on the clock.

What I don't get is how you can snap the ball at 1 second and spike it without time running off the clock?

Time was counting down and they snapped just after the clock changed from 2 to 1. I've always been under the impression that the second would run off in that situation, even if the ball is spiked at 1 second.

Exactly!
