Progress?

The program's first major bowl bid since the Fiesta bowl at the end of the 1999 season is on the line. The only thing that stands between you and it are the SEC's favorite joke of a team. If you're "the guy" you find a way to win that game.

This season is summed up in 2 games; South Carolina, beat them and Tennessee still has a shot at the SECC game. Vanderbilt, beat them and Tennessee should get the invite to the Sugar Bowl. They weren't ready for SC after an off week and they started a freshman QB, who should've still been in high school. Vanderbilt seemed more determined. Looked like they adjusted their offense for Tennessee tonight. Tennessee didn't make adjustments, but that has been a problem all season as well. Two, of the supposed, lower tier teams in the conference and Tennessee comes up short to both of them. Can't wait to next season.

Sorry. And I know this sounds cruel. But that's exactly when you fire him. You don't wait until recruiting starts to fall off again.

Top name coaches want situations that maximize their opportunity to win right away and succeed.

And the whole "disaster" bit is pretty old. Other coaches have inherited bad situations and still manage to coach well. Jones didn't lose to Vandy or USCe because of anything Dooley did. Jones OWNS IT 100%

You can't fire him until you get a new AD. it's really not that difficult to understand. We need a new AD ASAP

As much as I wanted Jones to be the guy, it's clear to me that he is not. It's not just this game, or the SC game, or Hurd, or the cliches'. It's everything. The wins and the losses; the anemic offense followed by the inept defense; the lack of fire on the field; and the excuses for everything. This was, unfortunately, four years in the making...and Butch Jones has been weighed, measured, and found wanting.

He's not going anywhere until after the 2017 season at the soonest, so let's hope for a strong recruiting class, and an AD who has the high standards and demands of the VN faithful. Hopefully, this time next year, we'll be celebrating a home run hire.

Go Vols.

The BOT athletics committee could hire a consultant/search firm and do an end run. There's a chance that they'll be looking for a new women's basketball coach next spring. That's a lot to put on a new AD. The problem is that the new chancellor can't take over until Cheek's victory lap concludes.

Out of all the sayings we've heard and said, "Maybe next year" seems to be the most common. Am I the only one getting tired of thinking/saying it?

UT fans are so eager to latch on to the future they let their judgement get clouded because they want to believe. Coach cliche had this fanbase from the moment he got here.

Eventually, the truth sorts itself out. Yes, he had early recruiting success but look how many players have left. At some point you have to ask, why?

Look at our record for the last decade. Progress? Absolutely. The man took the job when it was a complete dumpster fire and gave his all to rebuild it to where we are relevant again. Will he make us elite? Will next year be better ? Probably not, but we owe him respect for what he's done.

Uhhhhh the program is a dumpster fire again.

Progress...

Under CBJ, UT Football is:
- 29-21 overall. 58% winning percentage.
- 14-18 in the SEC. 43% winning percentage.
- 3-13 against Top 25 teams. 18%.
- 0-4 against Bama. Easy Math.
- 1-3 against UF.
- 2-2 against UGA and Missouri.
- 2-2 against Vandy. Say that again...Vandy.

UT is paying CBJ 4 million dollars a year for a middle of the SEC East pack football team that is 3-13 against Top 25 opponents. Philip Fulmer is either sick to his stomach over this, or laughing his a** off. Either one is understandable.

This is not a "process", it's a dumpster fire. And it isn't going to put itself out.

Good Lord.

Go Vols.

I can't take much more progress.

To those that pointed toward improvement each year.....

SAME OVERALL RECORD AS LAST YEAR, WHEN WE WERE PICKED TO WIN THE EAST.

WORSE CONFERENCE RECORD.

Where is your progress now?

We need some assistants that develop the talent we have. We need a top notch qb coach and s&c coach. Our oline has been pushed around all season. I don't know what emphasis Butch has the s&c work on most. Does have them work more on stamina? speed? I do know that we have looked like the weaker team much of the season. Maybe this could have been overcome by better technique but that doesnt seem to be an emphasis either.

Is there any other major program that would hire Butch Jones? The answer is no. He'll end up at at a non-power 5 school when he leaves after 2017.

Yep. Due to Dave Hart's exceptional contract negotiations and incentives, we're stuck with CBJ for another year, possibly 2.

I'll substitute some of the millions he's been paid for some of the respect.

He shouldn't be laughing. This is where he was at the end. Kiffin, Dooley, and probably Jones have not been the tow truck.... but they aren't the ones who drove the bus into the ditch.

Actually, being very realistic, he has virtually no chance of being fired this year.

I still think now is the time for building the case even if it is next year that it actually happens. If we act like his performance is acceptable then it won't happen at all.

Jones has been hedging since he arrived. He's made excuses out of youth, injuries, talent, depth, leadership, "they don't know how to win", yada, yada, yada. He convinced people that it was wholly unreasonable to expect him to be a good coach without great talent... and that he wouldn't have great talent until year 3...errrrr... year 4..... errrr year 6. That was the latest Butchism on how long it took to have sufficient depth and talent, right? Somehow other coaches didn't learn that along the way. Justin Fuentes just took a 6-6 team from last year to a ACC Championship Game birth... IN YEAR ONE.... WITHOUT IDEAL TALENT FOR HIS "SYSTEM".

what on God's green earth are we relevant in ? Not 1 damned thing! 4-4 in the SEC isn't relevant to crap.you weak fans make me sick! Open your eyes we deserve better! We don't owe him crap. We over paid the Jackass for 4 years !

Add in one year of overpaying a DC, a cliche machine, and that gets you to not bring relevant but instead you are the laughing stock of the SEC.

Butch is a great person, but has gone as far as he can go in the big league. I thought he would last at least another year, but his time is up. Butch is a mid-major coach with sub-par assistants. Butch thinks he is a smart guy, but he really is not. The Bob Shoop hire looked good at first, but this D has given up more than 1900 yards in offense in the last 3 games against Kentucky, Missouri, and Vanderbilt. Think about that. Unacceptable. Sure, injuries happen; but they happen to everyone. Where does accountability lie? Houston needs a new coach and Butch would be a good fit there. Do not be surprised if Butch cuts and runs; he knows he is in way over his head. The Dave Hart mess has left Tennessee holding the bag. Alabama Dave has truly screwed up the entire Vol athletic department during his tenure.

I guess Bama Dave and Florida Cheek can now declare themselves a success their hires have now completed their mission.
