I need to be reminded by those extolling the "fact" that Jones had "improved" each year at UT.

The bad thing about tonight wasn't just that UT lost but that Vandy looked like the better team. You could see flashes of UT's athletic advantage.... but Vandy's players were better developed and coached.

So I am looking for that "progress" Jones supporters were claiming.... I just didn't see it.

He got a little defensive last week; didn't he? It seemed no one could see the progress but him. Well, I don't think anyone sees that progress now. Maybe we will get lucky and he will leave for ND. Or maybe Butch will man up and leave on his own.....nah, that won't happen.

In my opinion Jones has hit his ceiling. He's been in place for four years and there isn't much in the way of development being shown on either side of the ball. Injuries happen, that's the nature of the game, he knows that. The development of the players in the two-deep (or lack of development) is mind boggling to me. That is coaching. If he is not wiling to take a hard look at his staff ns their preparation then the program is doomed.

Those kids weren't ready to play tonight, and his staff got out coached. This is a trend, we've seen it now several weeks in a row, we've just been lucky to pull a few out.

Is there any other major program that would hire Butch Jones? The answer is no. He'll end up at at a non-power 5 school when he leaves after 2017.

Look at our record for the last decade. Progress? Absolutely. The man took the job when it was a complete dumpster fire and gave his all to rebuild it to where we are relevant again. Will he make us elite? Will next year be better ? Probably not, but we owe him respect for what he's done.

what on God's green earth are we relevant in ? Not 1 damned thing! 4-4 in the SEC isn't relevant to crap.you weak fans make me sick! Open your eyes we deserve better! We don't owe him crap. We over paid the Jackass for 4 years !

Not the point. We've been treated to "he's improved every year" for a couple of weeks now as the justification for supporting him after USCe.

Now he's lost to TWO inferior teams in the same season.

What does he actually have to do to prove to you that he's not the guy?

Your mentality of we don't owe him crap is exactly why TN had to hire him in the first place.

I forget that in the fantasy land many of volnation live in, all the top coaches were fighting to get the TN job. :crazy:

I didn't say he was the guy. Actually, I said he probably won't be any better next year. If TN wants to hire a top name coach in the future you don't fire him in year 4, after rebuilding the program from decade of disaster, when they could be 9-4. You show him respect and loyalty and if he regresses in year 5, the new AD fires him.

I have been a supportet of Butch Jones. Especially given what the program was when he took over. I commend him for that. I am happy that he dug us out of the cellar.

Having said that, he just put us back in the cellar with the absolute atrocious game we just saw. There are no excuses for it. None. Zero. Nada. Derek Barnett even said it.

I have to face the fact that I was wrong about Butch Jones. He isnt the coach to bring championships to Tennessee. I could care less whatever crap ass bowl game we go to. This season is now a monumental failure that will have effects on recruiting and everything. Its time to do some house cleaning on rocky top.

Butch is a great person, but has gone as far as he can go in the big league. I thought he would last at least another year, but his time is up. Butch is a mid-major coach with sub-par assistants. Butch thinks he is a smart guy, but he really is not. The Bob Shoop hire looked good at first, but this D has given up more than 1900 yards in offense in the last 3 games against Kentucky, Missouri, and Vanderbilt. Think about that. Unacceptable. Sure, injuries happen; but they happen to everyone. Where does accountability lie? Houston needs a new coach and Butch would be a good fit there. Do not be surprised if Butch cuts and runs; he knows he is in way over his head. The Dave Hart mess has left Tennessee holding the bag. Alabama Dave has truly screwed up the entire Vol athletic department during his tenure.

you must have forgotten who did the hiring, how many did Dave talk too ? That's what I thought...your just another sheep that will follow this clown while he makes Tennessee the laughing stock of the SEC

I don't understand how you regress so much in just one year, especially returning almost every starter. It's honestly mind blowing. And yes I know we have had a lot of injuries but we had devasting injuries last year like curt maggit and gaulden. Hell we went down to bama and started two true freshman on the o line and gave them all they wanted. this year we have to fight and claw just to scrap by some medicore teams.

Sorry. And I know this sounds cruel. But that's exactly when you fire him. You don't wait until recruiting starts to fall off again.

Top name coaches want situations that maximize their opportunity to win right away and succeed.

And the whole "disaster" bit is pretty old. Other coaches have inherited bad situations and still manage to coach well. Jones didn't lose to Vandy or USCe because of anything Dooley did. Jones OWNS IT 100%
