Did anyone else notice Z Rogers as the gunner on punts Sat? I liked it. He blew up one possible return in the 2nd Q.

I did and was doing well. Boy did he take a yank on the neck though with that hit. He was in LaLa Land!

B-
Positives would be one of the least penalized teams in the SEC, they have a chance to get to a bowl game (a big accomplishment for this group), and they have a mindset that the results so far are not acceptable. They are going about the season with a more professional attitude than we have seen in years and that is a reflection on the coaching.
Negatives are obvious, second half meltdowns, LSU finish, UAB game, and the usual growing pains of a very young team.
All that said, I am very pleased with the direction and hope we finish strong. Go Vols!

Straight up C. I've seen some progress and development at positions. They won against the teams they should have beat and competed well against some more talented teams. Only reason I don't give a B is because the substitution issues took so long to fix; I can understand we're young and inexperienced but it shouldn't have happened as often as it did. I think the staff will do well though in the long run but I can't justify giving them better than C at this time.

I am going with a C. That could move down depending on the rest of the schedule and possibly a C+ if we win out and a B if we win a bowl game. The C is primarily an A for the first half of every game except UGA and an F for the second half of every game except LSU. Memphis and Ole Miss have been enjoyable and I like what I've seen with Bray.

A-:
1)Practically a whole new coaching staff.
2)An incredible difficult first half season schedule with little seniority.
3)Inheriting little depth across the board except for DE and RB positions.
4)Injuries to key players on the d-line put them in a tough position to a near impossible position at the beginning of the season.
5)Losing Myles even before the first game.
6)Having realistic expectations of the team this year.
:salute:

Good responses and participation guys, thanks. I agree with most of what's been said. I'd say a B- is the average, although, that's my guess. Didn't do the math.

I'm gonna do 4 of these next year., 1/4, 1/2, 3/4, 1. Also, I'd like to change it to an Off grade, Def grade, and specials teams grade, then asverage them out for our collective VN grades. Jus a thought, since were all undefeated internet coaches. =)

C. I give them a C because that's considered average. I believe the job this coaching staff has done is about the same as most other 1st year staffs would do with what they have to work with. They certainly haven't excelled (A+) and overall, haven't failed as a staff. It is my opinion that this staff has done exactly what was expected of them by most level headed Vol fans.

I'd give Coach & staff an A for approach and overall rebuilding from ground up. I'd give them a C+ for game handling and adjustment to adversity and situations so far, but I have a feeling that grade will go up with the staff changes that have been made. I will have to give them a F for just pure luck. To this point DD has had a bad run in that department. And if you don't think that matters, Les Miles would have already been fired if he wasn't the luckiest son of a %$^&& I have ever seen. :hi:

B+

They have beat and lost to who everyone was expecting them to and showing more and more promise as the season goes along

People still fall for this myth? All the good teams on our schedule are in the first half of the season, and all the Vanderbilts and Kentuckys of the football world make up the second half of our schedule every year. Why is this so difficult to figure out?

Dooley gets a C so far. He hasn't won a single meaningful game yet. I'm probably being overly generous.

Edit: I just noticed that this thread was just revived from last season. The C rating and my previous comments still stand though.

While this is true, it was also unrealistic to expect him to do anything more with last year's team than what he did. If he's made progress rebuilding the program, which I think he has, we'll see evidence this year. Although, the schedule isn't really that much easier.

Recruiting: A

Game management/Strategy: B+ (good first halves in a few key games, i.e. Oregon and Alabama and a good game against a team WAY more talented than us, LSU). I attribute this to poor depth, inexperience, youth, and poor conditioning compared to opponents.

Confidence in the staff going forward: A

As a few people have stated, last year Dooley won 6 games, which was pretty much expected. I'd give him a solid B overall for last year's efforts. I think it will take us another year to get back to the top of the division/conference. I'm excited to see improvement this year with the same system being in place for the second straight year for the first time since 2007. (The CLAWFENSE WAS HORRID AND DOESN'T COUNT) With that said, I also think it'll take another year or two for VolNation to fully realize how depleted our roster was last year. When this team is winning 10 or more games per year in the future, we will look back on the 2010 roster and realize just how far we've come.

What grade has the staff earned from MCBowl to today.....
Posted via VolNation Mobile

B-/C+
Nice recruiting class, filled some needs but it was 6th best in the conference and gain no ground on the SEC elite. The 2012 class is shaping up but looks like it will be no better than 5th or 6th best in the SEC. Ws will help here but need that top 2 or 3 SEC class to return to the SEC elite.

No real off field distractions this off season which was barely noticed with all the NCAA noise.

Saw improvement in the O&W game but left somewhat disappointed. Fall scimmages D did well but still some concerns with the O. So many SO. We will know this year if DD and the staff can coach.

No such thing as luck, get 11 on the field, and hit your EP's.....8-5

The LSU game everyone talks about 13 players on the field as the reason we lost. What about the offense not converting on 3rd and short on last possession and the defense crumbling in the last drive. So there is plenty of blame on both players and coaches to go around. Music City Bowl was another choke job by missing an extra point and then the defense flagged for personal fouls up the gazoo. As great as JJ is, if he just makes a clean tackle we would of likely still won the game in regulation.

CDD has talked about playing through adversity when things aren't going our way. That will win us a couple of ball games this more this year if the players don't start gambling and get a bunch of costly penalties: No late hits, facemasking, or head shots. CDD said when a bad play happens it isn't time to chuck the ball 60 yards down field check down and get 5 yards. That makes much sense to me. The last interview I saw he looked and sounded concerned about the offense. It's time for the defense to step it up and not force the offense to score 45 points to win the game. Yea I think Bray is good but he didn't look great when he played a few series against Alabama so the jury is still out. He certainly hasn't looked invicible during fall camp either so far. So the running game is crucial for the offense to set up the passing game. Don't think for a second we can pass it 45 times against LSU and still win the game.

B - this coaching staff came in and the situation at the school was an F, with what they have done a solid B is good.

Now, what will the grade be after year 1, if last year was "year 0", we shall see

Excluding first half of UF game, I would give a strong B+. Except for that half of football UT has out played everyone they have faced.
