I am not happy with the results of today’s game however, I am optimistic of what the future may hold for our new team and staff. Our O-Line looked liked Swiss cheese the first QTR and JG suffered because of it but we we able to put some pieces together and show what we as an offense and JG can do with some time and competent play calling.

Honestly, I have now idea what to make of Pruitt after one game but what I did see is a coach that never stopped coaching and nevered swayed from what he knew can win.

We have an unknowable future and the past decade (+3 years) has put a healthy fear into anyone with half a brain however(comma) I saw a style and attitude that I haven’t seen since the early Fulmer years and that gives me hope.

Do we have a Saban (Champion style coach) or a Ritcht (win 10 games and be competitive) type coach I don’t know. But I’m willing to bet you bottom dollar on is that we have a better coach and staff and system than we have had in years. And will prove dividends soon.

I don't think what you said could possibly be unpopular, since you more or less ran the whole gamut of reactions.

I agree with OP. The Vols ran the ball well and with physicality at times that reminded me of the glory days. I was very impressed with Jordan. He ran with passion and was decisive with his cuts. Guarantano looked very sharp at times and has made monumental steps from last year. He anticipates his throws and they are crisp and accurate. There's a lot that needs to be improved upon but I think we will improve as the year goes and am thinking we finish 7-5. Not the score I was hoping for, but I saw some things that keep my optimism.

I agree that it "looked" different and perhaps it was just the 3-4 defense which I am not a fan of. Those 3 big boys have got to do a better job or the SEC teams will eat us alive. Several posters have already commented that we gave up but I never saw it ... most likely just anger at the defeat. I have chalked this up to solid QB play by W Va and too many changes by Tennessee (coaches, play calling, etc.) for a first game. The Florida game should provide us an idea of who we are for the rest of the season. At least I hope our cupcakes don't tell us that we are terrible. GO VOLS. P.S. Play calling seemed a little conservative once JG showed he could pass the ball.

Defensively we are just not very good at any position. You can't make good wine out of bad grapes no matter what kind of wine maker you are.

The majority of This team is still made up of Butch Jones players which is why I felt like I was watching a game from last year. Other than a few coaching moves, like going for a TD on fourth and goal at the one, it was dejavu. No team speed, cornerbacks and safeties out of position ( yes I know a couple of corners were freshmen), O line getting manhandled , especially in the first Quarter and the tone setter the first play of the game ( there's a reason Kennedy didn't play at Bama), weak on the D- line. At least there were a couple of bright spots, Tim Jordan runs hard and is an SEC caliber RB, receivers didn't drop passes, Guarantano looked better but still needs to stop targeting in on one receiver and go through his progressions. Was WVU a good team? Yes, offensively probably the best we will play all season, however, they were more physical than us on both sides of the ball and we'll face a lot better defense in 2 weeks vs. FL. My expectations are anything more than 5 wins this season will be progress. Pruitt is going to have to get his own players in here before we really start to notice any major improvement.

The O-line was horrible in the first quarter. They did improve some as the game progressed. I still don’t think we threw the ball enough considering the wr talent we have. We did run decently, but need more than one back who can move the chains. Our secondary was out of position most of the night, especially the second half.
