No but a competent Qb wont hang on to the ball when he knows the defense is coming to knock his face off. Oline wasnt great but u can help them out by getting rid of the ball quicker. My 13yr old son plays DE. We watched the game together and the 1st thing that came out of his mouth was "dad why yal Qb holding the ball so long."

Strange that anyone thinks he's an SEC starter

Wait, he just said his boy is only 13 and you want him to start in the SEC .... Oh, wait, my bad I get it now. I agree with you wholeheartedly.
(I'm just joking a little with you MurphyVol ... this board needs a little levity right now). But I do agree with you.

If we have a majority of "5 Star Talent" on the offensive line this year, where do you go to get better linemen? Are they over rated or not coached properly? Too many penalties from GA just shifting their line. Every shift seemed to confuse our linemen in terms who they were supposed to block allowing 1 or 2 of them to come through mostly untouched to blow up the play. If we can't run for more than 20 yards in a game against top tier talent then we will be forever a "middle of the pack" SEC team.

JG is not great and is only good for short stretches. At this point, he should be able to hold onto the ball and not fumble when he is hit. OL failures contributed to JGs poor performance. At least he was not over throwing the receivers like the previous two weeks. In ability to sustain drives in early 3rd quarter gassed our defense which lead to very little resistance in the 4th. AL, AU, A&M & FL will present similar issues for our OL if they can't correct their blocking schemes.
Our offensive line has a ton of talent and has shown great potential the last two weeks..... This week the line had a horrible game against one of the top 3 defenses in the nation..... they will hopefully grow from it and get better. Even great players can have bad games..... I was sitting in Neyland stadium when Peyton Manning threw three interceptions in the first half against Florida.... it happens

I get it but a 5th year QB should have the option to check at line to pick up blitzes etc. The fact that JG either can't do it or doesn't have that option speaks volumes

You can't check into picking up blitzes if you don't have the bodies to pick them up. When you have the SS, LB and DT all coming through the same hole, you don't have the bodies to pick them up. Center blocked right, Guard picked up the DT, LB and SS had free runs. Everyone is piling blame on JG, but that OL was atrocious. Being as seasoned as they were coming in and supposedly our strength. We couldn't pick up the blitz. Even if It had changed the play to add a blocker such as the TE to help, he had 1.5 to 2 sec to get it out. Thats nothing more than a really quick slang. Soon, the CBS will sit on that tendency and pick it off. We should have continued to through deep on the outside until we connected again.

Don’t think QB is our only problem. Our O line could not get any push. You can’t win if you can’t run the ball. JG actually played pretty well in 1st half. But, he did poor job of getting rid of ball and protecting ball in 2nd.

JG does a poor job of getting rid of the ball in every flipping game he plays in. I spend the entirety of every game yelling “throw the @#$&*ing ball,” scaring the daylights out of my dogs and causing my husband to ban me from the den. I’ve never been so mad at WINNING games as I have with him at QB, let alone that keystone cops performance yesterday. When your QB can’t throw the ball, run the ball, has no clock in his head, can’t read a defense to save himself, is deaf, dumb and blind to a blitz, it makes everybody look bad. We have no idea how good our Oline can be, our WRs are and our RBs are because the guy we keep putting under center simply doesn’t have a head for the game. I love his courage and tenacity but we are stuck where we are with him at QB.

You have a LARGE hole that you need to throw into quickly. A competant QB would know this...

Really stupid to say the vols suck. After where we were with Butch, we thought we could win Saturday, we didn't, but we are only mad because the base thought we would be more competitive, what other coach in 3rd year bested a top 10 team? Not many!
Who said we sucked? It wasn't me. Not sure what you read or how you interpreted it.

I think this format has some good potential.

JG still has a problem sometimes of deciding where he is going with the ball before he takes the snap. Never goes thru his progressions.

Smh,......
If a starting lineman can't read his own blocking scheme we are in trouble
Ummmm its the QBs job to read the defense pre snap, change blocking assignments and identify the MIKE linebacker. JG has struggled with this his whole career, SMH

@Mccage
Kennedy is not responsible to making line adjustments/checks at the line, that falls squarely on JG and hes not very good at it. He has the physical tools but not the mental capacity to play at this level. Try again
