This may not be a big surprise, but Derek Barnett had a pretty phenomenal season. While Barnett’s run defense was far from anything to scoff at, it was his ability as a pass-rusher that truly set him apart. While players like Kansas State’s Jordan Willis and FAU’s Trey Henrickson had great pass-rushing seasons, Barnett absolutely deserves the award for best pass-rusher.

Barnett finished the year with 13 sacks, 22 hits and an additional 42 quarterback hurries. Those 75 total pressures ranked fourth in the country among all edge rushers. His pass-rushing productivity of 16.1 also ranked fourth, showing that he didn’t just rack up a ton of pressures based on volume of snaps. He also had an additional 13 plays in which he cleanly beat his man rushing the passer, but was unable to record a pressure (due to a quick release by the QB or something similar).

^LOL So True!! He was within a Heartbeat of at least 7 Sacks!! Beast Mode!!

Their QB Didn't know whether to S**T or go Blind!! :eek:lol:
.

He was blown away after the game when they told him Barnett only had one sack. Great pass rusher without a doubt. But, Barnett's greatness lies as much in his tenacity to stop the run, use great leverage, and even play in space. Total football player and almost 100% injury free.
I don't know what measureables the NFL scouts are looking for. But for me, it would be very hard to pass on DB for anybody.

And yet as good as he is, one of the mock drafts had him going 28 to Green Bay. Why would he be that far down on any board?

Should read "Best Defensive End" and could probably even argue "Best Defensive Lineman". An absolutely generational talent. And there were plenty of folks on this board saying they didn't want him here after a dirty personal foul during a game in HS lol.

Here is an interesting stat for the Myles Garrett apologists. According to the Music City Bowl broadcast crew, Garrett had 32 sacks in his career, but only 12 of them were in SEC competition. By contrast, of the 33 sacks racked up by Derek, 29 occurred in conference play.

This is only news to people who don't objectively follow football, or who aren't fans of greatness. GBO

Wasn't even dirty...just aggressive. Vandy homers announcing the game created that fiction.

Maybe they penalized him for playing on defense that gave up 45 points to Vandy.

Relax - I love Barnett and very much appreciate what he has done for UT. I'm surprised someone else (other than buthchna) actually though I was serious.

Getting you to follow me like a shadow and promptly reply to my posts is all the compensation I could ever want. :)

That doesn't happen but if it keeps you from taking your meds?

People rarely note this.
