Prisons Are Failing - Here Are Solution

Most prisons are made up with gangs many of which are illegal.. Send them back to the country of origin.

As a convicted felon myself I can say for sure that the prison and jails that I've been to have just as many home grown gangs as imported ones. I have no idea what the solution is but I can tell you that ours is broken. A young person that makes a mistake needs to be able to grow older, wise up and become a productive member of society. I spent four years locked up and I learned nothing good while there other than it's not where I want to be. But it still took multiple visits for me to get that. For me it took Christ changing who I used to be. And no, it didn't happen while I was locked up and it wasn't a get out of jail free card for me. Now I have a family, a job making $70k a year and a story to tell that proves that it's never too late for change to occur. But I still can't vote, or own a gun (fine with that one) and I hit major road blocks should I try to change jobs.

It imprisons people for things that should not be crimes (drug possession, prostitution, unintentionally violating incomprehensible regulations)

Once this changes, the other reforms in the article will follow.

Not bad but I'd also add that a first time felon who completed their sentence (whatever it may be) has their record sealed and rights restored. That way they can get a place to live and a job to support themselves. Repeat offenders would be a different story.

Murderers, child molesters and rapists... absolutely not

If a crime is so heinous that a person deserves to be punished for life then they should be locked up for life. So for the crimes listed above, life in prison first offense. Otherwise, once you do your time (first offense) you should be allowed to move on with your life without being hindered for something you paid for.

Agreed.

We ought not punish someone, have them endure said punishment, then make it ridiculously hard to integrate back into society as a productive member. Such should be the end goal of the justice system. All decisions should be made with that goal in mind.

why should society forget some of these actions? a neglectful action can lead to someone getting crippled. in your system after 5-10 years the guilty party walks away scot free. the victim?

the dumb mistake argument is just that, dumb. its another way to avoid personal responsibility. If its a serious crime you shouldn't be able to walk away from it. Life doesn't have that, the event doesn't go away. we keep wondering why this crazy ish keeps happening in this country and its because we allow it to, and excuse it away.

Yes.

Prisons should be reserved for those whom we deem incapable of living in a modern society.

This is still acceptable punishment in some countries, i think. Wonder how effective it is?

Who said forget? What about the victim? The punishment could be no jail time or anything but a weekly stipend from the guilty party to the victim.

Where is the avoidance of personal responsibility? It seems your problem is more with the punishment/judgement side of things, not with life after punishment has been endured.
