After watching Bama last night I got to thinking how we match up with them and it isn't pretty. We have to continue to win on the recruiting trail as well as keep and develop the top notch talent. Being able to keep Preston Williams on the roster as well as sign Tee Higgins are two examples that I believe would have us playing closer competitively to Alabama, and they are the standard. Random thought but wanted to share.

So, what you're saying is that we need to recruit well to be a team contention for the national championship. Who would have thunk it?

Cry me a freaking river over your lost girlfriends.

It's time for some football. Tomorrow can't get here fast enough.

What on earth did Preston Williams do here to make you think he could make a difference against Alabama?

And from the little bit I saw of Tee Higgins in Clemson's first game, I was disappointed. It might take him a year or two to become a dominant force. He looked a little too skinny right now.

If you really want to cry over talent it is not these two. Try Vic Wharton who had a helluva day against against UNC.

And now that you have spoken we can move on with our lives

He was really talented as a true freshman.

Preston may have been really talented as a freshman ... but he wasn't really productive -- 7 catches, 158 yards, 2 TDs.

Both TDs and 98 of his yds came in Western Carolina game.

In the rest of the season, 4 catches for 60 yards (over 7 games).

Nice kid, funny and quirky, but if he truly was as talented as we thought when he arrived, it never manifested itself in production.

If you want to beat Alabama you have to do 4 things well:

-Have a great passing game.
-Keep Alabama under 150-180 rushing yards.
-Play excellent special teams.
-DO NOT turn the ball over.

Every team that's beaten them the past few years did those 4 things well in their game against Alabama. Every other stat means pretty much nothing as far as Alabama is concerned.

Nick Sabans system is so good because it's so simple. If you can't do those 4 things well, you won't win. Most teams will do 1 or 2 of those 4 things well. Nick has designed a team to defeat the majority of teams. He played the numbers. Rarely do you get a team that passes the ball with the efficiency needed that you can actually rely on it to win games with little else going on offensively. So he focuses his defense on eliminating the run/short passes---what most teams can get good at even with mediocre players. But only truly elite teams will have a QB and WRs needed to actually lean on their passing game. There are fewer of them than good running teams. He simply built a system that priced most teams out of their markets...In as far as QBs and WRs go.

I haven't seen this Tennessee team play yet. So it's almost impossible to accurately evaluation them. But, not signing Tee Higgins is a big miss for the Vols. I wish they had signed Chase Hayden, he looks to be a real baller. Losing Teague to Ohio State is a blow to this class as well.

Preston Williams never impressed me.

Williams pouted after Jennings beat him out. After seeing JJ and PW both on the field, I can see why the coaches made that decision. Thank goodness Nukeese is out of eligibility or some here would be crying about him.

Two big talented wideouts would no doubt help. But I think getting much more physical, talented guys in the OL and DL are what will best narrow the gap between us and Bama.

You had to watch them play to know that?

What we need is here now IMO. J.palmer and B.Johnson are primed and ready to fire and right on their heels are M.Callaway and L.Williams. This is based on JJ, TByrd, JSmith being starters which has changed and Palmer will be starting Mon. night. C.Mayes is definitely joining our OL and we may get Corvin also. Both our lines and the depth there are getting very strong. All we lack is heavy duty LB's and strong, accurate, passing arm. We have a chance to win the east this year and if not we will be taking a huge step in the right direction for several years to come.

Let's start a conspiracy against Bama? Just kidding only if they went on probation would slow them down but kind of like Japan. After last probation they went through a few coaches before they got Saban and only took 3 seasons for Saban to win a NC. Even if Saban retired the next coach would be set up nice for years to come. I don't see us catching up to Alabama unless something major happens bad to them but then again look how they and Penn St rebounded after probation.
