Not sure about this RS debate for the kid. By my count, we have 12 WRS on the roster, not counting Pearson. Preston, based solely on expectations, could be the MAN in a year or so. North and Malone played because they HAD to play...and then they kind of disappeard. If he needs to RS, then I am confident Butch and Z can sell it to him (assuming he is not another headcase like Vic Wharton). If he proves in camp that he is one of the best we have and can play the position and help us win, then I am confident he will be on the field. But he not only has to be healthy enough to play, he's gotta earn the right to play just like everyone else.
His health comes first no matter what.
He needs practice and real game reps to learn and grow but if doing that is a risk of reinjury and a huge setback for him then make him sit, learn the playbook and take mental reps to learn as much as he can and get him back to 100% healthy before risking anything.
He has too much potential to ruin his confidence this early in his career.
#BrickbyBrick...VFL...GBO!!!
I want him to play as soon as he is 100% and that may mean a redshirt year. I agree with some of the posters that have mentioned that sometimes not redshirting is a good thing when you have these freak athletes, get a few great years then get them in the league and it only helps you and your program. That said I think you do that when a player is healthy and 100%.
You probably have two years out of this kid if he is as good as advertised (which I think he is) so why wouldn't you want to get the best two years that he has to offer.
Agree with this until the ruin his confidence part. He has more confidence (swagger) than any receiver we've had in a long while. That's not going to change.
Preston has already said that he does not want to redshirt and has been putting in the work to try and get ready. If the doctors clear him then we need to play him. This kid has a lot of what we have been missing. He is an alpha male with down the field speed and believes that every ball is his. We have a lot of big wr's that play small.
