It was a factor for sure. Lets not kid ourselves. The same way some wouldn't want Shaka Smart if we lucked out and got him.

Ha, you actually were one I was thinking of.

I take back any bad thing I said directly or indirectly about you.

Again, completely serious.

I do appreciate it VSF. No one wanted to hear it. This board is well known to punish those with a different opinion.

Not true. If UT wants a better coach and spends the money they will upgrade. If they don't, they won't. No successful coach concerns themselves with theatrics of fans or what an average coach did in front of them.

Cuonzo wasn't accepted by this fan base because he didn't win enough. Fans never saw a future with him. Has nothing to do with his race.

You miss the point. I didn't say race was the reason. I said a lot of African Americans will see it that way. Particularly, D1 prospects who have some other coach in their living room telling them it was the reason.

How can anyone play a race card when they look at the current roster, assistant coaches, and know that UT hired Wade Houston as HC back in the 90s?!! Good Lawd what goobers we have no here at times. Best applicant for the job - plain and simple.

Are you serious? The race card will get played just like it does in politics. Truth is irrelevant. Facts are irrelevant.

All that matters is what some slick recruiter who has mastered the art of negative recruiting is able to sell some 17 year old kid and his mama.

It's not even believable. You are thinking too much.

He's just an average coach who felt unwanted and bounced. Big deal.

Really? You think some kid in the projects who already has a chip on his shoulder is going to see it the way you do?

Dude, you're way off base with this one. Nobody is talking race but you. I'm done talking about it with you because it has no merit.

Like it or not the preception is that because of CCM race the fanbase did not like him. The excuse that is given by the fanbase that we wanted to win more. Most coaches are given three years to see what they can do, well in year three CCM took us to the Sweet 16 and that still was not good enough. This preception is going to be used against us in recruiting. Just a side note look at the roster CCM had when he arrived if you study it and be honest it was not very good. Year three he takes you to the Sweet 16. If we are not careful we will be looking for a football coach.

What would have happened when he didn't make it to the tournament next year because of the talent drop off? After Stokes declared it became a real challenge. That would have been on Martin after 4 yrs of recruiting. We would be in the same boat which is why I think that also played a part in the decision.

If I am reading this tweet right, the extension offered was $500K extra and one year. That is a joke.

edit: apparently 2 year extension. That is more reasonable, though not great.

I agree with you 100% but this fanbase wouldnt even give the man the support he needed for this year. If I was a recruit do you think I would come to a school where the fanbase does not support the coach. NO!!!

I think the clue came when Stokes declared for the NBA draft

Since we're all guessing, I think CCM realized he was expected to produce consistent winners at UT and when Stokes declared CCM realized he would come under pressure again next season with the roster he will field.

the 15,000 average fans attending games this year would disagree with you. You can support a team without liking the coach.

Dave Hart isn't exactly making me feel confident right now.

Anyone feel differently?

Well, when he compares it to the football coach search.....no it doesn't. I mean I like Jones but everyone knows he wasn't nearly the top choice.

Finally something positive about the fans. Only came about because of a specific question.
