Press Conference (Merged)

I've been keeping up with Vol football since the days of Battle and I have no doubt Fulmer is a class man and HC and he does have a true heart when it comes down to Tennessee. But the 90's are a thing of the past just like the 98 season. We no longer hold Top 10 status on the field or in the recruiting ranks. We've become the "Turtle" while the Gators, Bama, Bulldogs have become the "Hare". The "Winds of Change" have been blowing for the last couple of years and this year turned in to a Hurricane.

I wish him and his family well and for all the memories but it's time to think and look to the future. :salute:

Exactly, prattville.

Not that i've ever won a championship like that.... But if your heart is in it, it means something to you... Enough to cry over. Plain and simple.

Thank You for what you did in the 90's CPF but since 2001 you have lost a lot of games. Enjoy ur 6 million

Had to listen to the press conference on sports radion in Atlanta. Tore me up when he talked about "Tennessee and doing what is right for her.". That man is all vol. Thanks for everything, Coach.

I will be rallying around the team. What about you?

I've seen several greats shed tears because its like you said...its about effort, energy, emotion, sacrifice, countless, countless hours of preparation...these guys work their butts off! Most of all its about Heart! I've heard Bill Cowher kicked around as a successor, he stands out when he cryed with his daughter after winning the SB.

This was the best way that this whole situation could have gone down. Instead of fans booing and covering their heads with paper bags at the Kentucky game (if UT was to lose), Fulmer can be cheered and given a proper send-off for what he's done here.

It's a bittersweet moment. It's been time for a change for a while now. I know Fulmer has bled orange for 38 years, but that doesn't mean he gets a lifetime contract regardless of team performance. All coaches know (or should know) that this is part of the deal. I feel bad for him, but I'm ready for a new chapter in Vol history.

Thanks for the memories, Phil. Good luck to you.

If the opinions of the players were solicited as part of this decision, everyone in the Athletic department should be fired immediately. That kind of foolishness is how schools end up with the Todd Bozemans of the world as their coaches.

there is a big difference between asking players their feelings on the state of the program and asking them if they want fulmer fired.

Very painful to watch. I honestly hate to see him go, I think the problem could have been fixed with the right coordinators.

But, with that said Phil had a great run in 90's and represented UT with class all the way. I bet he really regrets the hiring of Dave Clawson.

Hard to watch. Yo ucan tell this was Fulmer being pushed out versus him wanting to leave - the crying, the saying he could turn it around, etc.

This leaves Hamilton in a position that he must hit a homerun in this hire.

Eight years into the 00's is hardly "late". I hope that you will show some class and let us Vol fans gather our wits and come to terms with this whole scenario without you spouting off and making things worse. There are times when rival posters just don't have any say, and this is one of those times.
:worship:

"I accept the University's decision that this will be my last season as Tennessee's head football coach".

Today is a sad day in Tennessee football history.

Let's honor the man while he's here. At the same time, we're all ready for a new page in UT football history.

It will be an exciting time for the program. Enjoy the ride!

I agree, Lawgator, go over to the gatorsports board and hang with your buddies and tell each other on how great you guys are and how your going to score 100 on Vandy and how you might get robbed of the BCS title and blah blah blah...We really do not care or need you around right now...So I'll be polite...Buzz off

yeah it sucked, he is a true vol
do you think he will go to auburn and make us regret it?

That would really suck.. that would give him a chance to kill 2 birds with one stone.. Not only us, but imagine how mad the bama fans would be if he went to Auburn!!! Wow that would be a huge interstate rivalry!!!!

lol.. Get robbed... Bama is going to spank that rear if they make it to the championship game..

Fulmer bleeds orange no doubt about that. He is a great man, he's given up his life for UT but even he knows when to step out! Hopefully he won't go anywhere else but rather stay in the UT athletic department somewhere...

Don't get me wrong.....we made the %100 right choice on letting Fulmer go but.....I really feel bad.
Ok I won't lie....I was born in 1993....Fulmer has been the HC longer than I have been alive.

What will UT feel like without the big man on the sideline? I wanted him gone as much as anyone but now that I have my wish I feel saddened. It's weird, I know.
I never really realized how much I did appreciate Fulmer.

Thanks for your great tenure coach!!!
Now lets go get the right guy!!!

This was very hard to watch. I think we needed a change as much as anyone else. But I feel like I just lost a close friend or family. I know time will ease the pain and we will move on and be better. I hate for someone that loves UT as much as most of us to be in that much pain. He obviously thought time would turn this program around and he could do it. Sad day on the hill.
