Press conference at UT tomorrow

I loved the press conference, you can tell the entire coaching staff at UT cares about their student-ath. Great PR move to get the real truth out about the culture at UT. Highest GPA and overall fewer incidents the last few years with the football program for sure. There is always going to be problems along the way. No way in Haiti do I believe our administration is creating a culture promoting sexual violence. Good grief that truly is slander and defamation of character. I could care less if they settle, the burden of proof is on them. GBO!

Here's a question. After this press conference of unity and program-defending, how will this look if Tennessee loses the lawsuit? If there is wrongdoing found and that there IS in fact a culture problem. How much more foolish will this seem? I just think it would've been better not to say anything at all at this point.

Other than coaches being caught encouraging rape and harassment how can you lose the lawsuit?

And if that's the case, we deserve everything they throw at us.

Perfect move. Press Conference was a wonderful idea the coaches came up with. Very pleased.

Made a lot of sense. Put the people out front who are experts at articulating the qualities of the school.

They did tell them not to address the suit. But I would say that the legal team could've helped more by telling them that this isn't necessary. Why put the coaches out there in front of the media at all? I would think less would be more by UTK right now.

To add to this, all you're doing by having this press conference is giving the plaintiff's attorney's ammo.
They're are going to read every word said today and pick it apart and try and spin it just like the media will when this is over.

Of course they shouldn't!

You're not getting it.

Someone needs to stand up and say that they talk to the male athletes about respecting women, and no means no, and making good choices about drinking and hanging out in sketchy places.

The right choices should not ONLY be made by females or female athletes. Saying these things in relation to only female athletes is placing the blame on them when bad things happen. This is the very reason UT has a lawsuit pending.

No, you're not getting it. Again, this is a societal issue. Has been for a long, long time. You seem to imply that UT doesn't counsel these athletes. They do....over and over again. Still, there will always be some who refuse the message. That's reality. It's also a bit short sighted to ignore the elephant in the room. If we are being brutally honest about this, the lessons about drugs, alcohol, how to treat women with respect, etc SHOULD HAVE BEEN DONE AT HOME. That's the primary responsibility of the parents, but in many cases, despite the best efforts of the parents, people get off track and go astray. It's the human condition. No amount of talk will stop someone with bad intent. It's nice to talk about programs, steps, counseling, etc, but evil exists. Bad things will happen. Sorry, but you need to live in reality. Not saying we shouldn't try, but let's put the damned blame where it belongs....the individual committing the crime. It's not the woman, it's not the school, and in many cases, it's not what the family taught. It's the individual. Go after them hard and heavy. Punish the individual.

If they don't speak, the narrative is that they were all complicit in the negative culture.

When your innocent, you want to confront the distortions and grandstanding procedures of the people against you. By saying nothing they just keep blasting away in the media and your rivals keep using it against you. Great move to have a PR, proud as heck of our coaches in that PR. GBO!

Why are any of us here, man? Just hurtling along at 30,000 miles per hour around a big flaming ball of gas that's careening through space just one of hundreds of thousands of stars in a galaxy that's one of thousands.

Monty Python......nice. :good!:

That'd be a good point.... if these coaches weren't interviewed every single day providing thousands of statements that can already be picked apart. This was all about controlling the message.

Have you ever heard the term "The silence is deafening?" Basically UT NEEDS to be in front of this issue for PR sake. Sitting back and saying nothing, IMO, implies some sort of guilt. But we all know this type of stuff happens everywhere. Just so happens the perfect storm is over Knoxville at this very moment. A few years ago it was over Penn State. These things happen, but to sit back and say nothing in a time like this would be a bad move from the universities standpoint.

This applies anywhere, not just UT's campus. I promise you that there are people who specifically target universities to attack and prey on women, and I would bet my bottom dollar many of them aren't even students. You have to have some sort of situational awareness no matter where you are.

Hell, GT students get robbed ALL the time. And they continue to walk around this neighborhood in the wee hours of the morning.

I get that. It's just that after watching that press conference I didn't really walk away feeling better about the situation, that's all.

I was under the impression that UT has plans to settle this lawsuit. If that is the case, it's not about giving plaintiff's lawyers ammo. I think it's about recruiting. Parents of athletes want comfort in knowing that someone has little junior's back when he packs off to school. This whole thing is a recruiting nightmare.

As for the rapes - (and this horse has been beaten to death) - lots of smoke, but not much fire. Who is actually convicted and doing time? I'm not saying that these athletes caught up in this are innocent. Just saying, this appears to be more of a money grab (and it is working), with a lot of scorched earth left behind.

I'm in the military and both men AND women are briefed to not go out alone at night, try and stay in groups even in the daytime, etc. The drastic reality is this type of stuff occurs everywhere and it absolutely cannot hurt to remind people that the world can be an unsafe place. By just saying that to their student body implies that they care about student safety and well-being.

It was a PR conference for the coaches to have a chance to defend themselves and their program. Nothing significant was disclosed or said. Haters are gonna hate thou and the press is going to pick apart this like vultures they are until every piece of decayed meat is gone.

Just saw on Twitter one assclown in the media tried to claim Warlick said that the sex accusers were "disgruntled". That idiot didn't realize she was referring to former employees of the AD. Its clowns like this who is in the "media" today.

I was a little nervous when She went down that road, but then she went out of her way to not label their opinion either way.

Yeah, we have a safe campus. Just don't go out alone at night.

Can't stand when feminists say people shouldn't say this. It's just common sense, there's bad people everywhere. Same argument as looking both ways and making sure any cars are gonna stop before you use a cross walk.
