I read about this yesterday. It's like people in government can't get it through their simple minds that this is our big vulnerability. There's a history of hacking (mining/theft of information and insertion of malware) in multiple sectors that hasn't been solved, and we continue expanding our vulnerabilities without a fear. If a foreign power shuts down our infrastructure - power and communications - we are screwed; gridlock. It might as well have been a nuclear generated EMP. We continue building flying video games as our first line of defense, but what happens when those are also compromised? Nothing is truly isolated it seems these days.
This intensifies the threat of China taking Taiwan. It would make our current vulnerability from offshore production of integrated circuits seem like child's play. We know that Chinese sourced phones and drones are corrupt; the better question is what don't we know? Our Nero is playing with EVs, appliances, climate, social games, etc while our world of electronics is maybe getting ready to reduce us to caveman status.
