President Joe Biden - Kamala Harris Administration

Indeed. Massive profits off the back of this stupid war against fossil fuels you promote.
It’s like the Democrats are going out of their way to create an environment where any time they come to power Big Oil goes into survival mode.

What do companies in survival mode do?
They cut costs.
How do oil companies cut costs?
They stop drilling.
What happens when oil companies stop drilling?
Prices go up.

Weird.

Depends on the issue. I don't blame Trump for this economy. I think if you took a look back about ten years hence the inevitability of a lot of this, from Trump's mid point on through to today, would be pretty obviously inevitable.

It goes back a lot farther than that. There were a lot of policies over the years that put all the elements in place for a big bonfire. Those came from both the legislative and executive branches - and the unacknowledged branch - the Swamp where regulations and all kinds of other bureaucratic nonsense are hatched. Not to mention the bureaucracy itself with a life of it's own that continues to grow and cost more and more to feed. On the fiscal side the dems have been the worst offenders (but not the only offenders) as the bunch who can't spend enough or spread enough favors across the land to buy votes.

We have a huge cost of labor problem - one that makes us uncompetitive with other countries around the globe; and wage increases without productivity increases are absolutely inflationary. It didn't have to be that way, but dems wanted the organized labor vote, so there was no control - mob rule for higher wages with dem support to make sure of getting the labor vote. Just to make sure there were minimum wage hikes for the rest - and all the other things (except tax brackets) indexed to inflation. Those can't simply be put back in the bottle now, but could have been nipped in the bud - but that needed to happen no later than in the 50s. So, no, the mismanagement and the inevitability for disaster has been around far longer than just ten years.

I'm frankly tired of both sides blaming the other, when in power or out, of being the cause of long term, big picture, economic problems.

Someone posted above about the fed hike today. That's not up to R's or D's. You want to tie it to supply chain shortages? Fair but that's a covid issue both parties had to deal with. You want to blame in in stimulus packages? They certainly play some role, but both sides did them in recent years, for different reasons, and they often had at least begrudging bipartisan support when the least knuckleheaded amongst them on both sides read the numbers.

Big picture, you want to blame tax policy? I agree. But I think its also fair to say that both sides use that system to barter for their constituencies, often without regard for long term consequence. You want to blame regulation? OK, certainly in some cases that is relevant. Oil refineries come to mind. But so do the problems we have seen with that industry and the clean up costs when regulation is lacking.

So all in all, except for discrete business types of distinct parts of the economy on a limited time basis, I just don't think politicians have as much to do with the economy as the party out of power pretends they do ... until they are next in power, and say they had no control.

Just another example of partisan politics and fundraising appealing to the lowest common denominators.
I especially enjoyed this part.

Playtime is over. When the GOP wins the Senate and House, they had better 25th his ass.

I don't generally support impeachment except when it's absolutely warranted. And either he has finally succumbed to the dementia or he's trying to stir up trouble.

Either way, it's time.

He’s done. No need to do anything except cut off the spigot.

So you bought during the Jimmy Carter era? No wonder.

I agree we were probably spoiled with low interest rates but I be damn if I buy right now and get half the house someone just got two years ago. I'm the fool unless I got a load of cash to put down. Burst all it wants. Who cares if my value goes down? I plan to stay put anyway because the window has closed in the Biden economy. I don't see the prices ever going back down to what they were even if there is stagflation. Some companies will just go out of business first.

The first house was after I graduated as a newly minted engineer and moved to a new job. We had no intention of buying, but in the end it was better than renting - we were set on a house and not another apartment. The second one was a move from one job to another. From experience, I really sympathize with people caught in a lurch because of changes in their life situation at inopportune times. I could easily be wrong, but it's my impression that the mortgage rates for the past few years have really been historically low - that 5-6% wasn't unusual, and significantly higher beginning in the 70s.

The clear set up is the GOP crying foul when the results hurt them, but perfectly happy when they help.

It goes both ways, and it's why there is never a concerted effort to fix election related issues. That would take both sides losing, and that isn't going to happen.

Imagine how bad it would be if we didn't have dems looking out for us. Please, tell me I don't need blue for that.

Additionally, what businesses have to do is build more cushion in for adverse conditions. You know what an adverse condition might be, the POTUS waging a war on your business. So guess what, we are still in a place where fossil fuels are needed. Combine that sustained and/or increased need with lower supply and probably some more aggressive pricing and voilà, record profits.

Btw, who gives a flying F. That is the effing purpose of a business, in case anyone forgot.

Washington Post columnist calls for Biden and Kamala to BOTH Drop Out for 2024 for 'the sake of the country' and the New York Times picks up 'fumbles' from his gaffe-laden Florida speech

  • In the op-ed published on Wednesday, columnist George F. Will called for Biden and Harris to both bow out of the 2024 race for 'the sake of the country'
An op-ed in the Washington Post is calling for President Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris to bow out of the 2024 race for 'the sake of the country.'

Columnist George F. Will pointed to a slew of Biden's gaffes and verbal blunders as reason enough for why 'Joe Biden should not seek another term.'

'Democrats should promptly face that fact, and this one: An Everest of evidence shows that Vice President Harris is starkly unqualified to be considered as his successor.'

The scathing op-ed piece comes just a day after Biden fumbled his words during a campaign stop in Florida where he confused the American war in Iraq and the Russian war in Ukraine - then flubbed again by saying son Beau died in the Iraq war when, in fact, he died in 2015 of brain cancer.
