No, New Orleans is not safe relatively speaking, that doesn't mean a loon like you will die if you go there. Do you mean Bourbon Street? Yes, if you sit on Bourbon Street right next to a few cops riding horses you are probably relatively safe otherwise not a very safe place relatively speaking.

I ,at one time fell for the "Chicago is unsafe" BS.
After spending a few days with my in laws, I found Chicago to be a safe clean city. A lot to see and do there,some outstanding restaurants.

I like to hang out in Cabrini Green. Usually firework shows every night in the summer and pretty much every holiday.
