I would pay $17.05 to feed my family of 5 an average priced meal. Someone on SNAP would pay $2.85 to feed their family of 5 that same meal. At three meals a day, 365 days a year, that is a $15,549 out of pocket difference. After taxes, the SNAP subsidy would be about $20k a year compared to the full priced wage earner. And that is just for this one program.
That seems like a pretty generous social safety net to me.
