The funny thing is him brining out Maxwell to cover for him makes him look really, really bad. And that is even if she doesn't get a full pardon right away.
It's relative. If he thinks he can release the interview and keep the wolves at bay, sure, that looks bad. But relative to disclosure of documents showing he engaged in some really awful behavior? Not so bad, relatively speaking.
