President Donald Trump - J.D. Vance Administration

Since when has Trump purported to be a free-market conservative? How is this position of any surprise to a guy who spends a bunch of time reading/posting on a political subforum?

He has ran 3 Presidential campaigns on reducing regulations, etc, which is the key free market conservative ideal.....

Yes, Trump does share that basic, traditional conservative ideal with the mainstream GOP. But after that and tax cuts for the top tiers, not so much.

Regulation reduction, especially when said regulations are far broader in scope than solely economics, does not inherently relate to free-market conservatism.

Trump hasn't exactly made his economic beliefs/policy proposals a secret.

You can shout "Drill, baby, drill" and still not be an ardent free market adherent when the vast majority of your economic positions are protectionist in nature.

Well, I thought the country was screwed long ago i.e. not salvageable. I guess inside I was hoping maybe (just maybe) the Orange man would save us from the reset. I would say the reset is back on tap. I think he has done a great job lots of things but this whole Epstein, Israel, and Ukraine thing isn't working.

I have accepted the US is screwed. No one is saving it at this point. We are headed down the same path as Europe.

We are still 15 months away from the 2026 mid-terms, and I heard way too much about the red wave that was supposedly coming in the 2022 mid-term elections, to take that seriously, this far out.

.... and those mid-term elections occurred while Joe Biden's average approval ratings had consistently been between 38% and 43% for close to a year.

Most forecasters projected Republicans to gain somewhere between 20 to 35 seats in the House of Representatives. They gained 9 seats. Those same forecasters had Republicans winning elections for Governor in Michigan (Whitmer) and Arizona (Hobbs) and picking up a Senate seat in Pennsylvania (Fetterman) .... The Democrats won those 3 elections easily.

So, basically, we will revisit this in about 14 months. It's way too early to be talking about those elections now.
I agree with you 100% that this means nothing as what will actually happen 15 months from now. My point is that at this point in time the Democrats are not benefiting politically

I tend to lean very much Republican and even like a lot of MAGA ideas but I am tired of the hypocrisy, broken promises, citing to Christianity but behaving the opposite, etc. I want leaders that practice the values they preach.
I lean to the left, but I tire of repreation(sp) and govt funded sex change operations.

The Democratic Party has a sizable void in leadership right now. There isn't a strong, young, charismatic figure with any appeal to the minority and youth vote, like they had in 1992 with Bill Clinton and 2008 with Barack Obama. There is no voice who everyone is anxious to rally around. There is no excitement and no focused messaging other than being anti-Trump.

It's a problem that's been brewing for years. Republicans are following an immoral, self-absorbed, egomaniac .... but at least they have a clear leader with charisma, who their base is eager to support. Trump provides them energy and he is good at stoking their collective anger and resentment, and channeling it against Democrats.

Having immoral leadership is not ideal, but it's better than not having any leadership at all.

You don't see AOC filling the void with the D?

I do like the idea of a 3rd party making the other two have to earn something but I wish everything to the right of Democrat wasn't just defaulted to MAGA.
Unfortunately most Republicans in Congress are MAGA and almost all those who aren't will vote per Trump's demands, so we've got Democrats vs MAGA.
