That will accomplish nothing and I quite frankly don't care about how our fan base is perceived anymore. Protesting and getting involved in social media is exactly what we need to do again if they try to pass this through.
Yeah its all the fanbase. They are the reason Tennessee Football has hit bottom. Coaches dont want fans like us, they want quite fans that dont care if they win or lose. You might think the fans are all the problem but there would be no football program without them. Your right the fans needs to show their "displeasure" by stopping the funding of a program that could care less for there supporters.
Steele is similar to Schiano in that we can't hire him due to the optics. If we add him, the only story will be his abysmal record as a head coach, accentuating the perception that we couldn't hire anybody good. Instead, we had to take an alumnus who totally bombed as a head coach.
Schiano IS a better coach, there is no debate. Still don't want either one of them though.
Steele wouldnt be my top choice either. But thats were we are. And the fact that we have fans wanting to repeat the actions on Schiano day and then repeated with Doeren is shameful. What an absolute embarrasment to our fanbase.
I think I'd ok with Steele considering. At least if we go mediocre we go with a VFL that wants the job for more then a raise
To be fair he has been under a ton of very successful coaches after his Baylor stint..and he has done pretty well. With the right coordinators it might be alright. I could't even find any information on the coordinators he had at Baylor (it was that bad).
Hate it, but I agree with this. My son went through the recruiting process and while the school and position coach were important, confidence in the head coach and direction of the program was big. How do you have faith in a career coordinator nearing 60 being able to take a program to competing for championships? One would think he'd have made the jump back to a head coaching position long before now despite the Baylor debacle....if he were head coach material. At his age, it's hard to have hope that a younger, up and coming coordinator would at least give to the fans. If I'm Cade Mayes or Martinez, I'm looking at Steele vs Frost or Smart and I'm pretty sure where my greatest chance of success and title opportunities will be.
Maybe Fulmer is interviewing him to gauge HS interest in returning to UT as a DC? Surely Fulmer isn't going to pull the trigger on this. Just can't be Steele.
You need to get over this. That was a long time ago and no one won at Baylor until Art Briles built it up. Winning at Baylor is akin to winning at Vandy. It's a private Baptist University for crying out loud. What do you expect?
