Prepare for Steele

We go 3 games without a touchdown and he is considering a DC as coach, makes sense to me. I don't even see this kind of incompetence here in Ohio with the Browns

Steele does indeed have a terrible head coaching record which by the way was 18 years ago I think I read. That's a long time ago.

Since then he's worked under some big time coaches. His defense this year looked pretty good.

I don't know much about him. I'll reserve my judgement until I've seen what he can do.

I kind of feel like no matter who we hire half will most amd complain and the other half will be happy.

I think Fulmer wants UT to succeed and will do all he can to make this happen. I'll wait and see.

Kevin Steele turns 60 in a few months and despite being a renowned job hopper, literally no one has bothered to give him another HC job since the Baylor s*itshow 15 years ago. What does that suggest to you?

He is a good DC, but if this is your answer for HC...I don't even know what to say. Not every good coordinator is capable of being a HC; Steele was unthinkably bad in that position and he never got a second call back from anyone.

I'm going to start calling a #2 a Kevin Steele. We're not going to be seeing many of these next year.

Did you really expect anything different? Look at Fulmer's last hires as HC... There's a reason he was forced out... How soon we forget

I was going to say, it looks like PF is picking right back up where he left off in 2008. Hiring Steele tells me that either they are going dirt cheap again or Fulmer wants to maintain all control and tell the new head coach exactly who he will hire for assistants.

We all know how that turned out for Frank Broyles at Arkansas.

Todd Raleigh, Derek Dooley, Donnie Tyndall and Butch Jones disagree

9-36/1-31 makes those hires look like Nick Saban, prime Phil Jackson, and Urban Meyer.

Kevin Steele would be the darkest day in history by far. Darker than Phil in 08, Kiffin 09, Bruce Pearl BBQ,and Schiano 17.

If that is the kind of success Phil is looking for then we hired the wrong guy.

Just because a coach is a good coordinator, it doesn't mean they are a good head coach. Steele might have the number 1 defense in the universe but he is a HORRIFIC HEAD COACH. F#$^

Hate it, but I agree with this. My son went through the recruiting process and while the school and position coach were important, confidence in the head coach and direction of the program was big. How do you have faith in a career coordinator nearing 60 being able to take a program to competing for championships? One would think he'd have made the jump back to a head coaching position long before now despite the Baylor debacle....if he were head coach material. At his age, it's hard to have hope that a younger, up and coming coordinator would at least give to the fans. If I'm Cade Mayes or Martinez, I'm looking at Steele vs Frost or Smart and I'm pretty sure where my greatest chance of success and title opportunities will be.

Maybe Fulmer is interviewing him to gauge HS interest in returning to UT as a DC? Surely Fulmer isn't going to pull the trigger on this. Just can't be Steele.
