Prentiss Waggner

Waggner will be a starter.......Janzen if he returns.....Moore will prob. start but could be corner or saftety....Lanier is off the bench, Teague will beat him out at Corner.....My picks:

FS Janzen
SS Brewer
CB Waggner
CB Moore

2nd Option:

FS Moore
SS Janzen
CB Waggner
CB Teague

What is the scenario if Jackson doesn't return? Because this is a very possible reality.

Also, no one will be taking Brewer's spot at SS save for him getting injured.

On this board, I see a lot of "hate" towards Waggner. People saying that he won't start. Waggner is one of the best DB's on the team and we surely start. I think a lot of people get caught up in 40 times instead of production. Last year was his first year starting and was very solid for us. Of course he made mistakes but he also made a bunch of very good plays.

Umm you do realize that he led the country for most returned touchdowns off interceptions? And he earned All SEC...yeah ok he's bad

Meanwhile, after the arm chair coaches finish their analysis of all that is wrong with PW -he will continue to start, intercept a half dozen passes next season, and garner national honors for his good play on the field.

Yeah...against Montana, and Buffalo and Vanderbilt:rock:Wooooweee:rock:

Except intercept passes and return them for touchdowns.

And herein lies the fallacy that the pro-Waggner crowd so easily gets caught up in...they focus on the pick 6's that make up about 1% of the total plays he was in on and forget the missed tackles and blown coverages...

It's no coincidence that his picks were against UTM, UAB, Ole Miss, Vandy and UK...

He's a solid player that will make a good backup/nickelback for the rest of his career....but last year he benefited from a ridiculously depleted roster and wouldn't have seen the field half as much otherwise...

The influx of talent that will happen this summer will land him back where he would normally be

Possible starting DBs if JJ comes back:

CB Moore
CB Lanier
SS Brewer
FS Jackson

If Jackson does not return:

CB Lanier
CB Moore
SS Brewer
FS Martin

Its nice to have some INTs and score once in awhile...but Waggner, Evans, Teague and Gordon play alot of matador defense check the replays of all the missed tackles...we need DBs that can wrap up the other team's players and stop the long gains. Same with some of our LBs.

Look for Martin, Randolph, Orta and Coleman to get alot of playing time if not redshirted. Then of course there is Hot Rod Wilkes.

Does not impress. If he sees much pt at all means we are that weak at db.

IMO DBs will look like this
with Janzen
CB: Moore
CB: Teague/Lanier
FS: Jackson
SS: Brewer

without Janzen
CB: Teague
CB: Lanier
FS: Moore
SS: Brewer

Coleman, Waggner, Gordon, Anderson, and Evans will compete for the backup CB spots. Waggner, Sapp, Wilks, Martin, Randolph, Orta, and Loften (if he makes it in) will compete for the backup S spots.

Look at the film against LSU 2010 on the 2nd or 3rd play of the game....

And the blown coverage at the end of the first half against NC. He left his receiver, who promptly ran toward the end zone, to chase a slow QB out of bounds. Except Yates didn't run for a first down or out of bounds he threw it to the WR who was in the end zone. Yeah... that's some excellent instincts right there. But like I already said I do not hate PW, I just don't think he is any better than a servicable DB.

Exactly where will he start and whose spot will he take. If JJ is out Moore is our starting safety with Brewer. He may see some time in the dime package but I think Coleman is a lock there and that's not even considering Martin. Prentiss is an average DB who was fortunate enough to see playing time last year due to depth issues. Fortunately, our secondary is stacked this year.

Secondly, I don't get this hate thing just being realistic.

Half way to being bowl eligible. Nothing to sneeze at.

When we get the younger (real SEC talent) players developed, and we can beat teams like UF, UGA, Bama and LSU and Arky we will be over halfway to playing for an SEC or National Championship.:yahoo:

I might take a nickel D with punishing hitters Brewer, JJ, Moore and Lanier, with ballhawk Waggner roving.

Oh, and don't forget Loften if he makes it in. So where exactly is Prentiss going to play? Brewer, JJ, Moore, Loften(?), Lanier, Teague, Coleman, Martin, Gordon, etc...

I could be wrong and i apoligize ahead of time if i am, Did jackson, brewer and gordon/ teague not play against those same teams? Seeing how they are so much more talented than him you would think they would have 10 or more pics. Again correct me if im wrong

He got burned big a few times last year. I for one like Wagner and think he'll end up a pretty darn good player
Posted via VolNation Mobile

He sure did. And not to criticize your intelligent post, there were times at UT and definitely in KC the great Eric Berry got burned big time too. Folks who insist on nitpicking will always find cause to put down a player. Heck, even Rod Wilks can have a good day and someone would find fault with that too.

Hindsight is 20/20. PW decides to go after the qb instead of staying with the receiver and gets burned (apparently there was no one else on the field), JJ decides to take a guys head off instead of just pushing him out of bounds which leads to the crazy end of the game. Both mistakes contributed to the loss...

We're not as deep at DB as it would appear. Only 20 of the incoming 22 signees can get in and odds are that the two that won't make it in are DBs. And JJ coming back is not a given, either.

It will be interesting to see who actually gets into school & who ends up starting where.

Yep. Wonder if some of the DBs can come in early summer, June?

Wonder when we'll know for sure about JJ ?
