Chelsea dealing Chilwell to Strasbourg on deadline day seems way more sketchy. Been pinching pennies for a while. Now add in some Coutinho money plus big returns on academy players who cost next to nothing plus winnings/sales from recent success and there you have it.So if they get Isak and Guehi today, Liverpool will have spent well in excess of half a billion dollars this window, right? I know they’ve brought in a decent amount through sales, but that’s still hard to fathom. They aren’t Chelsea.
I fail to see how the Chilwell deal is way more sketchy. FWIW, I don’t think Liverpool spending what they did is that sketchy either. But with Chelsea, the only thing they are truly saving on is his wages but since he hasn’t been named in the European roster this season or last then his wages have no impact on Chelsea’s champions league dealings from a UEFA point of view and from what I’ve read Chelsea have no issues with their wage bill from an SPR point of view. So it saves them some money, sure, but they didn’t need to offload him to comply with any rules. Chilwell benefits from this move way more than Chelsea, IMO. No one else was coming for him and he isn’t going to get minutes with us but he’s still only 28 and wants to play. Sell him and let him get back to playing weekly again.Chelsea dealing Chilwell to Strasbourg on deadline day seems way more sketchy. Been pinching pennies for a while. Feel bad for Guehi, and probably why people like Isak act the way they do. Apparently Glasner had a fit despite himself probably bolting the minute United come calling.
Sketchy is probably a bit dramatic on my end - to your point $10M isn’t all that much in this economy. That being said, I’m just not a big fan of the relationship. The half / half purchases and inter club transactions just scream clever attempt to skirt PSR.I fail to see how the Chilwell deal is way more sketchy. Now, The fee hasn’t been released yet and if it’s inflated then okay, sketchy, but Chilwells book value was low. I won’t be surprised if the fee is under 10M and Chelsea take a slight loss on the books. I think his remaining book value was somewhere around 10M.
Don’t feel bad for Geuhi. He’ll play one more season and Palace and then get a huge signing bonus and much higher wages when you guys get him on a free next summer.Chelsea dealing Chilwell to Strasbourg on deadline day seems way more sketchy. I can understand that. Obviously, I’ve had to come to accept it with Chelsea doing this but for the most part I’d be perfectly fine with this set up being banned.Sketchy is probably a bit dramatic on my end - to your point $10M isn’t all that much in this economy.
