Premiere League & World Soccer Thread

What made it so stupid is that it wasn’t even the actual ref. VAR spent what seemed like five minutes before awarding it. Fortunately turned out to be case of ball don’t lie after Bruno ballooned it about a mile over the bar.
Then Yoro allowed to push off on Bassey to create the space for his goal. The inconsistency is maddening.

@VolsLFC…even if the teams can somehow come to an agreement, would you even want Liverpool to buy Isak at this point?

I don’t know where he goes from here. He’s completely poisoned the well at Newcastle, and he’s actually handled it so poorly that I’m not sure other teams will see him as worth the hassle. He’s not THAT good.

Idk to be honest. We need more depth in the squad. From that standpoint, I do still want Isak. Not sure I want to spend $150M though, especially with his injury record. I feel like people are overblowing his reaction though. Only really seen one side to the story, and it does seem like he was given some promises to leave, which weren’t respected. Other players have acted like this before, including this window (eg Gyokeres), but Isak has been made out to be the anti christ.

I feel like Guehi is a more important signing but not sure it gets across the line either.

It’s a weird situation. Honestly it’s just another moment where it should be a reminder to players to not rely on handshake promises (if it even existed in this case). If you aren’t sure you want to stay at the club another few years but they are dangling a pay bump and extension in front of you, then get a release clause before signing.

In this case of the “he said, she said” we really don’t know what happened so it’s hard to find the true villain in this story. My gut tells me that a true handshake promise didn’t actually happen but there was a conversation around the subject that Newcastle promised to consider. In other words, the truth probably lies in the middle, but who knows.

My personal hope is they tell Isak to sit down and get comfortable if he doesn’t plan on playing. I’m all for player empowerment but I’m not a fan of the extremes that some players take it to. Garnacho is another one doing the same thing to try and leave United for Chelsea and it’s turned me off to that potential signing. JMO.

Liverpool conceding 2 goals up a man seems concerning for them.

They’ve played three competitive matches and thrown away a lead in all three. I imagine they’ll figure it out, but I would be a bit concerned if I were a supporter.

With just two games in and a slew of changes to the XI, Mac out and Szobo playing RB - I’m not too worried yet. Match yesterday played into Newcastles strengths - ball wasn’t in play much with tons of set pieces, free kicks and throw ins. I also think Newcastle treated it like a CL final - I am not sure their legs (or anyone’s) can sustain that type of tense pressure, which is why they had several injuries. I will say bringing in Guehi is more important than Isak.

On a side note, I was begging Slot to bring on Rio in the 70th minute. What a moment for him.

Incredible game. Still don’t fully understand how Newcastle looked like the better side playing a man down.

I need you guys to stiffen up that defense though. Arsenal can’t be allowed to win the league.

I agree about Guehi over Isak. Getting both would be incredible.
