After listening to Mike Hamilton on the Animal I think I know what Fulmer's future may hold as Head Coach.

Unless we completely tank the rest of the season(could happen) Fulmer will be back next year. Some assistants will be fired at the end of this season(probably Slade at least).

Next season we should be better at most positions except QB. And Cut has a record of producing quality QB's. If Fulmer doesn't at least win the East next year I believe he will Fired. The problem Fulmer will have is that Florida, Georgia and Bama will also be better next year.
When Fulmer plays a team with equal talent he usually loses. I predict Fulmer will either step down at the end of '08 or be fired. I hope he gracefully steps down.

Fulmer must win out this season, including the bowl game, to come back next year.

If he does this, he'll have next year to win the SEC and go to a BCS bowl. If he does not do this, he is gone after '08

That is all

I honestly think that Fulmer needs to leave. With the criticism he's getting now and the fans turning against him, it's best if he leaves. He's had numerous chances but if I was a betting man, I think he'll step down on his own after the year barring a great 2nd half comeback and winning the SEC title game.

Justin.......I would love to agree with you here........but when an AD says something like that, he is just throwing the fans a fish....eat it and I hope he turns our program around cuz he has time...now!!

WRONG!......if I worked all my life and had to go out on this note, I would take my chances on turning this program around and not bow out gracefully......guess its an ego thing

As I posted in the other thread, I don't think Hamilton was saying that Fulmer could stay as long as he wants, I think he was saying that Fulmer needs to step down on his own before EVERYONE in the state hates him, and before he is thrown out.

Come on, he doesn't have that fire anymore. The game has changed. He was great during his time, but he knows as much as anyone deep inside that UT can't become back to what it was record wise like it was back in the mid 90's-01. It's a respect thing, he has to go now, while there's still somewhat respect left for him.

2007 is too late. 2008 would just be an early entry into obscurity in terms of national exposure. We win 7 games next year with this staff fully intact or partially intact but lead by Fulmer.

He will be back in 2008. He will have to beat FL,AL, and GA plus more to be back even more years after 08. I know we are all getting tired of this, but I think he will be back next year and if theres no change hes gone.

If Fulmer loses a battle of wits with Karl Dorrell in Pasadena(provided neither one is fired after this season), toxic wouldn't begin to describe the environment in Knoxville and among the fanbase.

I guess everyone is saying 08 because that is the end of mikey's semi ultimatum. Its like this if phil finishes 9-3 somehow wins his bowl game then all of a sudden we are 10-3. In mikey's eyes that might be considered improvement. Only one slight problem with that. We won't do it 6-6,7-5,8-4 at best. Its probably a wait and see thing still. I say if we come out and lay a egg against carolina some heads will start to roll and it won't be phil's yet. If we tank i say he is privately asked to resign.

As long as we have a winning record CPF will be back in 2008. Nobody want's to here that, but that's the way it will be.

Phil we be back, but Chavis and defensive staff are gone.

do you have sources or are you just saying that? I've heard from sources numerous sources both on here and within the school that you are wrong.

Fulmer isn't going anywhere. The key to fixing this team is working like heck. Nobody does that better than Phil Fulmer.

Time to throw my opinion in the ring. For me Fulmer isnt so much the problem as the coordinators. Jo Pa beat us, or better said, his coordinators beat us in last years bowl game. Fulmer has the love of his players but the coordinators are the ones who have to kick their guys butts into gear. From everything Ive heard from former and current players Fulmer does his job of pep talking. So I will be pleased to see Chavis and Cut go at the end of the season and some serious young talent coming in to fill in those posts and let them battle it out for the HC job in the four or five years to come. But I know Fulmer wont let them both go without him so..... all will be back, some lower coaches will be moving on and we will be entering the 08 season pretty much the same as this year.

Fulmer should have gotten a handle on Chavis 10 to 12 years ago.

Cut should not have been allowed to come back. Who do you blame Randy Sanders success at KY on. Did he learn that quickly after leaving TN or was his hands tied.

Cool Avatar, I guess I should do better with mine?

Sanders was a fall guy but he isnt KY's OC he did pretty good with the talent we had at QB here at the time but he cant run an offense.

From the sound of it today!!!!!! GRRR Mike H. is wanting to keep him as stated earlier.....However its sad listening to them interview anyone that has to do with Tennessee noone has a real opinion afraid they might say something to piss someone off......Still no emotion on the Tn football side of things tends to get old...We need a Bruce Pearl type head coach which will B1tch slap his players into playing up to thier potential....FIRE EM ALL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

monterey, do you really believe Sanders got to run the offense, or was it merely a title given to him while Fulmer undercut all his ideas and thoughts, and then made him the fall guy?

(i'll let you guess on your own which one i believe)

I'll bet it was half and half,I dont think he ran the offense for the NC game and I am sure Fulmer changed things on him from time to time. But it says alot when you are the OC at UT and you get a demotion job at KY. I'm not the only one who thinks that way.
