misery, realistic...whatever you want to call it. i've made my points on how i feel about this team, 2016 and the direction of the program pretty clear, and those that have read a lot of my posts, would probably agree, misery is not accurate.

but there's no debate here. i doesn't matter what our pre-season rank is, and it certainly doesn't matter if for the next 8 months everyone and their mother picks TN to win the East, and talks about how great we are/can be etc....

if we lose to FL, as we have the last 11 years, what difference, really, would any of that make? just another year we don't live up to the hype.

it's not like i'm stepping out on this ledge saying "hey everbody, cool your jets, we have to play Vandy first".

no, i'm talking about a team that we play first in conference every year, that's won the East more than any other team (many times at our expense) a division rival...oh , and they've beat us 11 years in row. 20 out of the last 25.

OH forgive me for interjecting a little reality in to our "pre season" hype party. it's certainly not warranted.....

yeah, i'm way out on a limb.....i know what this team could be capable of in 2016. i'm excited about it. but i've been around long enough to know, that if we're not in 1st place on 9-25, it's an up hill battle.

if we played FL later in the season, even that would help. at least then you could get some of your season under your belt, get 4, 5, 6+ wins before you get to the "meat". but no. not us. we get it in week 3 or 4 ever year. so that game defines how the rest of our season is perceived, and it has ever year since the division split.

so to get excited because Athlon sports or prediction machine says we're at top 5 or 10 team, just doesn't do it for me.

be a top 10 team after the FL tame, then we can talk. :clapping:

Jake, the problem I see with your current perspective is that there's no room for off-season excitement, fun, or really even discussion.

"Woo hoo!" -- "No, not until we beat Florida"

"Stud Player saying we're taking Bama down this year" -- "not until we beat Florida"

"What are your predictions for 2016?" -- "Nothing until we beat Florida"

Okay, single-minded fixation on the Florida game by you, got it. Don't think it's really healthy, but got it. But dude, there are 11 other games coming up in 2016, plus post-season. We gotta be free to talk about all that, otherwise why by a member of an online fan board?

We can lose to UF and still accomplish every team goal. Let's not make it out to be more than it is and enjoy the off season energy. We've been waiting on this for years so it's your own fault if you skip it to feel sorry for yourself

Once again, why do you care how we feel? You can temper your expectations till the Florida game. I just don't get why you think we should as well?

I'll be excited all preseason about our prospects in 2016. I'm not forcing you to be excited. Why do you wanna force us to be a malcontent like you?

I'm very happy with the program. Very happy with the progress. I think CBJ & co are doing the right things.

I'm just done with hype and rankings until we've gotten some results, chief among those.... Be undefeated in Oct 1.

Yeah, and that's absolutely fine. I just hope you don't keep interjecting the same .02 over and over again (as you've done the past couple of weeks).

You're not gonna get too giddy about 2016 until we beat Florida. Got it. Now let's move on to other things. You're far too bright and insightful a contributor for us to lose you to a single refrain on a loop. :good!:

Won't make a bit of difference in how the team plays either way. No harm in folks being prematurely optimistic and having fun doing it. Sure beats the pall of death that's been the norm; folks actually expecting results (gasp!).

SEC East has historically gone through Gainesville so beating Florida is the priority to finish top 5 and have a playoff shot.

I like the hype and expectations going into next season. But I agree with a few others, that it all starts with the Florida game. Hopefully our players don't buy into the preseason hype and rankings going into this season, and they Stay humble and work hard. Being in the top 10 or 25 doesn't help us one bit going into the Florida game. I never like to use the saying " it's a must win" but IMO the Florida game is. Breaking the loosing streak against the Gators is the first big hurdle for Butch and our Vols to really getting the ball to rolling for a big time season.
