Predict the East

Hear what you're saying 18, but Muschamp just went 4-8, only 2 years removed from 7-6, with losses to Vandy and lowly Georgia Southern, an FCS school. They don't seem to be quite as intolerant with a losing head coach as you suggest.

If Muschamp has a losing season and Butch has a losing season this year which one gets fired? They would both have losing season the past 2 seasons.

I think that was sjt18's point.

1. Tennessee (9-3) SEC 6-2
Vastly improved offense. WR and TE core will lead the SEC. RB will hold their own and avg 5-5.5 ypc. OL will take their lumps and bruises but will greatly improve as the season wears on.
On the Defensive side of the ball with a very young DL there will be struggles (penalties and missed assignments) but like the OL they will improve with experience. LB unit will be at or around the top in the SEC east. Secondary will be tested but will grow exponentially as the season goes on. Special teams will be AVG at best our return game will be AVG at best as well our record i believe will be 9-3 with losses to Oklahoma, Alabama, and Ole Miss.

2. Georgia (10-2) SEC 6-2
With inexperience at QB the Dawgs will have to rely on their RB's and Defense to carry the load. Their LB cora has taken a hit and with the DC (Grantham) leaving i think you'll see a small drop off with the Georgia defense they will still be very talented but like the Vols they will rely on the growth they experience throughout the season. They will benefit from a cake like schedule and will have a better record overall than UT but UT will win the tiebreaker.

3. Florida (7-5) SEC 4-4
Their will be a lot of improvments made for UF but as Titans Bill on TSR puts it the Gator fans only care about W/L. Defensively this team will be tested but defensive recruiting for the DL will be evident. Offesively the QB play will be night and day better and the RB's will be much better. but Defense wins ball games and this UF team lacks that elite DL that you need in the SEC.

4. Kentucky (7-5) SEC 3-5
I went back and forth on this one (flipping USCe with this) but i think the edge goes to UK based on QB play from Drew Barker. the OL is going to struggle at times but the QB, RB, and WR play will keep this offense moving. they will still struggle at times against quality competition. Defensively they will be strongest on the line but will struggle in the LB unit the secondary will show great improvement. UK fans will be ecstatic and Stoops will get consideration from UF for their job next year.

5. S. Carolina (6-6) SEC 3-5
Dylan Thompson will play for USCe in the same way Joe T III played for UGA erratic mostly but at times will provide a spark to keep them in games. They rely heavily on their RB's to lead the way and their Defense will struggle mightily. They will make a bowl based purely off how easy their schedule is.

6. Missouri (6-6) SEC 2-6
With Mike Sam, James Franklin, and DGB gone i look for the Tigers to struggle across the board they will still be in games and have a few cake games that will keep them in bowl contention. but the losses due to Graduation, NFL and discipline will be quite obvious.

7. Vanderbilt (4-8) SEC 0-8
Lets be honest here outside of Jordan Matthews and Carta- Samuels the Dores werent all that last year take those 2 away and they are at best a 5 win team. Caleb Azubike is a beast on the DL and will put up big numbers. Andrew Jelks will be an ALL SEC OL "darn DOOLEY" Robinette will put up AVG numbers and they will struggle at RB. Mason will be truly starting from the bottom and building his way up.

---The SEC east teams i see that will go in 2015 ranked and hyped up by espn are Tennessee (ranked 14th) and Georgia (ranked 21st.---

Wow! You even spent time on this list!?!? Put the pipe down and stay outta Vegas!! For your own sake!

No, his point has been that UT fans and administration accept mediocrity and keep underperforming coaches.....conversely he thinks Florida doesn't accept losing and is quick to fire their head football coach if he doesn't win. While I understand the point he's trying to make, my example of Muschamp negates that a little bit....he's still there after a 22-15 3-yr record, including 4-8 last year and a very, very bad humiliating defeat to FCS Georgia Southern.

Besides, it'll be year 4 for Muschamp and only year 2 for Butch....Butch ain't going anywhere after 2 years.

Pretty close. If UF hadn't had a pretty good season 2 years ago then I think he would have been gone. I don't think he survives this year without making a run at the SEC.

How have we accepted mediocrity? Firing a hall of famer is not the same as firing Ron Zook. We were one year removed from a near upset of eventual national championship winner LSU when Coach Fulmer was fired. It's almost laughable when people spout off about firing him and how it was time. We have been down longer than any traditional big six member has been in over fifty years. Fulmer might not have won the sec in the last five years, but we would have had several more enjoyable days. With Bama dominating like they have, Knute Rockne wouldn't shove beaten them.

I hate UF. But I respect the fact that they will do what is necessary to compete for championships. Zook's record at UF was EXACTLY the same as Jones' at Cincy. His record vs the SEC was actually better than Jones' record against the BE. He tied for the SECe in his 2nd season. He recruited very well. He was fired after 3 seasons.

Vol fans (including myself I'm sorry to say) have made excuses going back to Fulmer for the coach not competing at a championship level. At UF... they fire them.

What is your point in your nonsensical post? Who else besides butch jones wanted this cake of a job? You act like the ut job is all that and a bag of chips. It's not easy to win at Tennessee.

through the first page, easily the most accurate IMO.. with all the youth required by UT will struggle to produce 5 wins again

Besides Bama and Oklahoma, everyone is decently beatable. We are talented enough to hit at least 6-6.

we are inexperienced enough to go 4-8 also. no one knows at this juncture what injuries we will have. Lose any of the following players we will miss 6-6. Worley, Lane or Hurd, North, Johnson, Maggitt and Randolph. All of these HAVE to stay healthy and play well to get to 6 in my opinion.

They have to rotate 5 DTs and 5 DEs every game and right now they have no idea who 3 and 4 are with each group let alone # 5. Just that itself makes 6 wins a tough objective

Spot on.

My point is that people LIKE YOU act like it is just fine if UT is never more than a 2nd tier program. In fact, you made a post a few weeks ago where you pretty much said that it was too much for UT to ever expect to be a top tier team again. You are so hung up on Fulmer its pathetic.

The point? The point is UF's AD and boosters won't tolerate 2nd tier. Folks like you would be perfectly satisfied with it.... and apparently were when Fulmer was around.

So UT's young but talented players should lose to Vandy's young but less talented players? Mizzou's too? They should find a way to lose to one of Chatt, USU, ASU, or UK?

Funny how no one's holes or lack of talent or lack of experience seems to be a death sentence except for UT's. UT apparently has to have a roster 3 deep with Sr's and Jr's ready to be drafted to expect a coach to actually coach kids up and win.

Sorry. You get well deserved respect but the low expectations without consideration to anyone else's problems are just difficult for me to understand. If Jones can coach then this is a 6-8 win team. If this is a 4-5 win team then it is unlikely he'll ever be good enough to win the East much less anything more.

Zook failed to win a championship in 3 years. He was fired. Fulmer failed to win the SEC for 9 years and folks like you lament the "quick trigger"... even though the trajectory of the program was far past critical.

We were one year removed from a near upset of eventual national championship winner LSU when Coach Fulmer was fired. It's almost laughable when people spout off about firing him and how it was time.
Discipline problems throughout the program. No staff accountability. Poor recruiting effectiveness.

In that WONDERFUL season you mention, UT was also embarrassed by Cal, UF, and Bama. The fact that LSU plays down to competition doesn't really help you that much when UT was only able to beat Vandy by 1 that year and needed OT to beat UK by 2.

Even with a good record, there was STRONG evidence in 2007 that Fulmer was being outclassed.

We have been down longer than any traditional big six member has been in over fifty years. Fulmer might not have won the sec in the last five years, but we would have had several more enjoyable days. With Bama dominating like they have, Knute Rockne wouldn't shove beaten them.
Right. Accept mediocrity. We get your position on things. Its OK to be 2nd tier... you should never take any risk to move the program forward.

Making a bad hire with Kiffin which eventually forced a desperate and bad hire with Dooley... does NOT mean it wasn't time for Fulmer to go.

You have somehow romanticized the "Fulmer years" to completely wash away how it actually was when he was told to go. You could have learned lessons about the way NOT to get in this kind of hole again... but you didn't.

I'm reviewing our program exactly has I've always reviewed our program when making projections. Right now, as always, I'm speaking in general terms as far as wins and losses. At the end of August when I've had a chance to review practices I will state what I think this roster can do, 4, 5 or whatever wins.

Right now, I base it on this roster and think we are looking at 5 again. I'll be surprised if we keep all those players I listed in another post healthy all year and I believe that will be needed to get to 6 wins.

Hey, I could be wrong. I missed the 2008 season when I felt we would win 9 games. so would not be first time to be wrong

I am just pretty frustrated with the continuing failure Larry... and the apparent acceptance of it by far too many here. You've seen a lot of comings and goings. You have to know that coaches who succeed almost always demonstrate elite ability within the first couple of years. They do "something" that you can rightly consider overachievement.

So should we look at UT's roster in a vacuum? I feel that we have to set our expectations based not only on UT's weaknesses but their strengths and weaknesses compared to who they play. So how do they match up vs Vandy, UK, Chatt, USU, ASU, and Mizzou? The deciding factor to me is coaching. I personally think like I did before last season that UT is on par or pretty close to it with USCe. That is six games where UT should have a roster advantage and one where it is close enough to not be surprised by a win.

Shouldn't we at least consider that it's about changing the culture? Our players have to learn how to win. For all the disparaging remarks about Coach Fulmer, he win a lot of close games because his kids believed they would win. Changing the culture is just as important as recruiting.

Recruiting and more wins will change the culture to a great degree. We need to give time..time. Dooley headache is going to take a while to get over....but you would have to be blind not to see a tremendous attitude change with CBJ as coach even amongst last years seniors.
