How do I think it's funny a-hole?
I'm heart broken for Coach Summitt and for UT!
With all the bad crap UT has been through over the past few years we're not in God's favorite list, that what I said.
As for Cheek, he's a gator! Of course he's happy UF will start winning in women's basketball!

Prayers and best wishes to Pat and her family. I'm going through late stage Alzheimer's with my Mom. It's such a sad, degenerative, and debilitating disease.

'69 Mets aside, Do you REALLY think God concerns himself with things like that?

One doctor told Pat to retire and she looked at him and said: "do you have any idea who you're dealing with?"

Saw a tweet from Cam Tatum that it was not an earthquake in the East Coast, it was Pat Summitt shaking the entire east coast to show she's still Pat Effin' Summitt!

My thoughts and prayers go out to the Summitt family. If there was ever a true UT icon to sit beside Gen. Neyland it would be Coach Pat Summitt.

If anybody can still manage her job while dealing with this disease, it's her. She's the best representative of Rocky Top there is and a true legend at that. I wish the best for her and her family going through this rough time.

Actually, I do look for recruiting to suffer if she continues to coach. Sad but that's the reality of things.

I'm sure this is her last year. There's no way she can do it longer than that, and she's classy enough to know that it's time to step aside.

I'm sure Geno is already using it against her in recruiting. He's that classy.

UConn women's basketball coach Geno Auriemma issued this statement on the health of Pat Summitt through UConn's sports information department on Tuesday:

"I was shocked and saddened to hear about the news regarding Pat Summitt's diagnosis. You don't necessarily associate dementia with people our age so this announcement really put things in perspective. Pat has great support from her family, friends and staff and I know they will help her immensely. There is no doubt in my mind that Pat will take on this challenge as she has all others during her Hall of Fame career - head on. I wish her all the best."

Does anyone know if finding out early can help in treatment?

treatment can help slow down the degeneration of brain tissue, but that's about it; alzheimer's can't be prevented or stopped at this point in medicine

apparently early onset might also progresses more quickly

It will suffer either way. Recruits would not be as interested in the lady Vols with a coach other than Pat either.

Don't be so sure. Look at Florida State recruiting after Bobby Bowden retired, and he's considered just as much of a legendary coach as Pat.

The thought of Pat Summitt not coaching just doesn't compute.

My father was diagnosed with this in 1999 and progression was rather quick. He was 49 when he got his diagnosis. He died in June of 2004 just days after birthday. This is a terrible disease and much harder on the family than on the person. She won't know but everyone else will. I feel horrible for Tyler and what he is gonna have to go through. Best we can do as a VOLNATION is pray for her and her family. She has been such a patriarch for womens basketball. Sure there will be many ovations for her career and life accomplishments this year in visting arenas.

Very sad news. My thoughts are prayers are with her and her family.

None of the current approved drugs for Alzheimer's Disease slows the progression of the disease - they only provide symptomatic improvement for a short time. But there are some experimental drugs being tested now which might turn out to be helpful in slowing disease progression. I'm sure her doctors have looked into her getting into one of the trials for those experimental drugs.
