My buddy, a UT student committed suicide this morning. He loved the big orange. He had a pic of him and my buddy drinking next to the orange T. We lost a great one today.

Thanks for the prayers.

Sorry for your loss. Something like this always leaves so many questions that will always linger to those left behind. Prayers to him, but to you and his family as well.

My best friend committed suicide when we were 16, it was a very tough thing to deal with. It still affects me to this day when i think about what he could have done with his life, such a brilliant individual caught in a bad situation. He just didn't realize that life was just beginning, and that there was so much more to live for.

I'm so sorry for your loss. He's in my thoughts and prayers.

If/when those nagging questions arise about 'why?' or if you, his other friends/loved ones ever feel frustration or anger towards him because of what happened (not saying you will but it happens a lot with suicide), or if you just can't fathom what happened: Please know that an illness took your friend from you. Depression and other mental illnesses kill just the same as heart disease and cancer.

Your friend reached the end stage of an illness and it was the illness that killed him -- I can't stress this enough. It was not him but a chemical imbalance --a physical illness-- that did this. You may wonder why I'm stressing this point and it's for several reasons including the fact that we now understand that mental illness isn't a character flaw or something the person afflicted can control, just like the heart can malfunction so too does the brain and it's not the fault of the person suffering.

But more than anything else, I've found that when those who lose a loved one to suicide understand that depression and mental illness are biological diseases that can be a fatal and think of what happened in terms of the illness taking the patient's life, it helps with not only the sadness/grief but with with understanding why it happened.

Your friend and everyone who loved him are in my thoughts and prayers. May the sadness be replaced with the wonderful memories you have of him -- the times you shared and the joy he brought to your lives.

Godspeed your healing.

Very nice UTProf. Very nice indeed. Those are thoughts many of us need to be able to share.

Take care of yourself, and take care of your mutual friends, and everyone keep an eye out for one another. This is a tough, tough thing to go through.

Can't imagine how you, his family, and friends are feeling right now. I will pray that yall can feel God's presence even though situations like this make him seem far away.

Awful news. God be with you and his family. Just another example of why football should take a backseat to life. There are much more important things than football in this world.

Had one of our Senior captains on my High School football team back 2 years ago take his own life 2 weeks before graduation. He was the one right before me in alphabetical order for graduation and it hit me so hard when we got up and I was next in line, but knowing someone was supposed to go before me. Needless to say, I accepted his diploma on behalf of his family and friends and there wasn't a dry eye in that convention center. It's hard to deal with, but just know that the pain never goes away, but the sadness in time will heal. Prayers with you my friend, but not only you, but to anyone out there who has gone through having a close one kill themselves and to all of those that were diseased in the way that made them make that choice. God Bless.

Ugh. Hate to hear stuff like this. We all need to remember that the only thing in this world that we cannot come back from or undo is death. I hope that you and your friend's family find some comfort in the thoughts and prayers of the Vol Nation.
