Pray for missing Titanic Submersible

I hope they are found alive and can be saved.
The very fact that they haven’t heard anything in so long worries me. And rescue from almost 14,000 feet deep is not a very easy proposition even if they are still alive. I read that the vehicle is supposed to surface automatically in the event of a problem, so this ain’t looking good

AP is now reporting that the support ship for the Titan submersible received a position ping from the Titan just before comms went down. It showed that the sub was just above the Titanic. I am hopeful that this is narrowing the search area considerably. No other news.

Wow, that thing is/was destined for failure. Unreal.

Best case scenario is that it is caught in Titanic’s debris and an unmanned vessel can cut away what has it trapped. There’s still potentially a couple of days of air for the lost passengers and crew to survive.

The worry is that debris entrapment wouldn’t account for loss of comms. Something happened so fast that no message could be sent. Erily reminiscent of the Edmund Fitzgerald. Unless they got caught in a cable that somehow broke their comms at the same time.

With no comms, I am wondering if something catastrophic occurred and this is already, unknowingly of course, a recovery effort.

I certainly hope not, but that deep, it can be be argued, is more unforgiving than the vacuum of the Moon.

If there was a hull failure and implosion event, it mercifully happens so quickly they are literally dead before they know it. I have not heard any reports of that kind of event detected.

That’s what I was hoping. That the communication system failed but the vessel wasn’t lost.

I don’t know if the sub was tethered to the ship or not. If the communication system is separate from the navigation system that sounds bad. In the video of a previous launch I didn’t notice cabling attaching it to the ship.

I understand that the sub will automatically surface if it encounters a navigation failure.

My understanding is that it does not have a physical connection to the surface.
Sounds like redundancy in critical systems was not high on list of priorities. If the occupants are still alive, they can always bang a wrench on the hull for Morse code. Not sure if they have a sonar system on site that could pick that up though. Bottom line is this doesn’t look promising

And if the propulsion system had failed then it should have already surfaced by now with the backup system.

If it’s not wrecked into the Titanic debris, it might never be found.

It would be a miracle if these people survive, but I doubt it at this point. After learning of this sub’s issues in the past, no way should anyone been allowed to attempt this adventure.

I'll be a million times easier to find that sub than it was to find the titanic. They'll find it easily.

I can't imagine anybody even tried to go manned to that depth, let alone tourists, let along tourist looking at something that used to be on the surface. It's just not that interesting. The risks are crazy awful.

Easily? Probably if it’s on or near the Titanic. But if the current swept it away during the descent it’s not going to be easy. It’s going on a decade and Malaysia 370’s location is still unknown.

Oh it will be found. Not like it would have drifted anywhere. It will either on or next to the Titanic wreck site. It doesn’t have battery power or a need to go anywhere else. Granted there may be currents but still.

You’d think they would have a couple AirTags or some sort of detection device to help locate it in case of an emergency.

its not like this trip was done on the cheap. The seats cost a quarter million per. I agree the longer this goes on, the less likely it is.

I think I read that should have close to 40 hours worth of oxygen left (96 original hours). Apparently the size inside the sub is similar to that of a minivan.

I would not get in anything that that oceangate CEO is part of designing or building.

Wonder if they have CO2 scrubbers. That becomes a problem long before oxygen runs out
