Sometimes I don't understand life. Today is one of those times. Please send prayers to the Vandy baseball community and the family of commit Stephen Gant. Very Sad.

This really pulls at my heart. As someone who played against him and saw how talented he was, but also that he was a nice guy and seemed to be a good person, I can't imagine what that community is going through. Prayers sent.

Praying for the family. Tough............Tough situation if true. Tough to lose a child in any fashion.

That's terrible. It came across Twitter this afternoon and has been seemingly confirmed by several people and students at his school.

That's awful.

Teen suicide is very difficult to predict and often impossible to see coming until it's already passed. I feel for the family and close friends. I can't imagine anything worse.

WKRN in Nashville has a story up. Kid seemed like he had everything going for him. Guess we never know. Prayers out to his family and friends.

Some of the Tweets and such (if accurate) indicate his older brother attempted suicide and another player from the same high school killed himself a years back.

If true, this is a very bizarre story.

Call me what you will, but I feel little sympathy for those that take their own life

I feel the same way as it often the most self centered act you can do. Had a friend who tried to overdose about 20-years ago and the hospital and doctor had an interesting approach I found appropriate.

They left her covered partly in the charcoal for a time and told us to show no pity to her.

That being said, we can feel pity on those that are truly victims in this and if severely mentally ill we still have to feel some compassion on the deceased.

Then you have probably never been in a situation where you felt like that was the only escape. I know I have never been, and I hope not to ever be. However, if I am, I know that I have a loving God, loving family, and loving friends to reach out to me. Not everyone has this, or realizes they have this. Just my opinion.

Surely you can agree that those left behind are really hurting and need our prayers. I don't want to go into details but some of those left need to be kept in our prayers for a lifetime.

I completely understand your opinion when it comes to adults but I don't agree with your opinion when it comes to kids. Not gonna call you names or stupid or whatever. I don't judge people like that. That's your opinion and I respect it.

Mental illness is a disease, just like cancer. Do you feel no compassion for cancer? Would you feel the same if it was your child or someone close to you? Or are you just a cold SOB?

Mental illness affects adults, too.

To feel no sympathy, thinking suicide is a selfish act, is just ignorant.

Don't feel sympathy for the act of suicide. Feel sympathy that the mental illness was so severe, that whatever he was dealing with on a daily basis made him feel as if he had no other option.

I am sorry, but mental illness does not mean suicide is GOING to happen. It is a bit of a stretch to compare the situation to the cancer patient that had absolutely no choice in the outcome of their life. That being said I feel greatly for the kid, and saddened that he felt so alone. My prayers are going out to family ad friends.
