Practice updates of any kind

He just said in the war room last night that Kasongo would be the starter as of today after this past week of practice, said Alexander hit a conditioning wall that Kasongo has not. Is that not what he said, I read it late last night so maybe I imagined it.

Again, paraphrase, Barnes wants it to be Alexander but that the gap between the two is day to day. I still got the impression Alexander was ahead. We'll see in a week or so.

I just see Jabari being a guy who gets minutes and it makes more sense for him to get them at 5 than at 4. I could be wrong there, too.

Apologies, I combined what VQ said last night and the quote from Grant Ramey from Barnes...

@GrantRamey: Barnes on any separation between Ray Kasongo and Kyle Alexander in the post: "It's day to say." Says it comes down to conditioning. Barnes said conditioning wise, Alexander hit the wall last week but has since bounced back. Seems Ray Kasongo has leg up as of now.

I do see Jabari getting minutes and I said that in my OP, that he'll get minutes for various guys depending on foul trouble, but if he's 6'5" I disagree that it makes more sense for him to get minutes at the 5 than the 4.

Lolololololololol bto, you're a good comedian. Better than any I've seen. Putting fulk in there with one of the best (the best.) players in the world. Lololololol

Barnes said today that we are not very good defensively and that is his biggest concern. Mostella also said "Zone really wasn't defense. You just stand there and raise your hands." So sounds like he wasn't really into Coach Tyndall and his defensive scheme which is why he didn't play much. Hopefully he breaks out this year.

Yeah, he was gone if cDT would've been able to stay. His playing time and body language on the bench gave that away.

To the best of my recollection defense has never really been a trademark for CRB teams. That's why with the quick trigger on offense this yr, I wish they'd press a lot on d. We will struggle against quality teams in half court d. But if we're smart and active that will at least keep teams from getting comfortable in their o.

If we do press I want Armani or McGhee back deep. Cause when we do get beat the safety valves need to be willing to step in and take one a lot. And those 2 are the only ones I have confidence in doing that.

As a player, no? People said the same about McRae, no? People said the same about Alexander, no? I recall people saying the same about JP, no?

I don't remember many people saying that about McRae except for him to play at the next level.... Don't really recall a lot of people saying that about JP either.... Both guys played entirely different games than fulk

Different games yeah. But scrappy bigs can come out ta nowhere too.

Vols will scrimmage Davidson Saturday (closed). The team consists of mostly Fulky type
NR-3 Star recruits. They will probably kick the crap out of us because they understand how to play team basketball. Solid fundamentals, shoot, pass dribble. Smart Team.
Barnes is looking for a solid mix of both Great athletes, high character and Hi IQ BBall players. Looking at his historic results.....looks like a good plan to me. Fulkerson is a good fit

If Davidson "kicks the crap out of us" we will be in for a rough season. I don't see it happening.

That's a myth.
With 28 years of head coaching experience, Barnes is more than qualified to provide the proper instruction. As the head coach at Texas last year, Barnes' Longhorns team ranked fourth in the nation in field-goal percentage defense, holding opponents to just 36.8 percent shooting. In contrast, opponents shot 43.9 percent against Tennessee last season.

So much for proponents of the Terror D.

Wish we could get more info from the scrimmage but I doubt we get much

We likely will get a general result leaked, but obviously not a score. If you follow Jeff Goodman on Twitter he's been reporting the results of these scrimmages the last couple days.

Armani looks to have really worked on his shot, in the multiple videos VQ posted from yesterday along with reports from RTI I think we'll definitely see much more of an offensive game from him this season. Moore said he followed the path of Richardson as far as developing his shot, now I don't quite expect him to have that good of a shot, but I definitely think you'll see him with some mid range and three point attempts each game. Also, man does Phillips look good. He may hit a freshman wall at some point, but his offensive game/stroke is very solid, and he's got a college ready body for 15 minutes a night easily IMO. Just for your daily Reese reminder, it was quite comical, 5 seconds into the first video I watched of the posts doing a drill Reese got his shot blocked my one of the dummies being used lol.

Davidson will be a tourney team again this year. CBS has them ranked 45th, 59 spots ahead of us.
I still will restate my opinion, if they "kick the crap out of us" (so a 20-30 point loss) by a 45th ranked team, then this will be a very long season. I know of Davidson's recent success in the tournament, I'm not that naive. I expect us to be in that competitve range of the top 40-60 teams in the country.

To add: we will play multiple teams near Davidson's caliber (Butler, Cincinatti, Nebraska, SEC teams, etc). It will be a long season if we can't compete with Davidson.

Let's revisit the entire dialogue please:

"The big men worked on finishing in the lane over a tackling dummy and struggled for most of the drill. The best finisher of the bunch during this portion was probably Derek Reese "

I'm starting to get hyped up about Alexander, Turner, and Phillips. CRB might have found a stud in Alexander.

Or Turner. From the practice notes I've read, Turner seems to have the smoothest 3 point shot, and the best passing awareness. He really really really could have helped us this year :bash:
