I'll take DK flying around making plays during a game as opposed to winning a COL drill

This will be the third time I've said this but I'll drive it home one more time. Hard work and determination beat half assed talent all day. You want bust ass workers over five star celebrities that have been told they are the best all their lives. This offense looks like it's full of mouth closed head down workers.

I've also said two other things over and over again. This season will go where the O line goes, and thankfully the O line is looking better then it has since Butch hot here. Also, I'm not convinced on HOKE. He needs to earn his money. If he gets these guys where they should be I'll be the first to buy him a beer, but I haven't seen anything to make me believe he's as good as you guys say yet..

6'1, 230 lb, very athletic linebacker should win that battle all day everyday against a 5'9" 210 lb soaking wet RB
This is one of those 15% where you and I will disagree KB. A MLB can should get his hands on an RB no matter size, but this drill is strictly about push and leverage, not tackling or slamming somebody on the ground. Bowling ball short type RBs can and should win that leverage battle every time against the taller mid 200 lb MLB. The RB in this case cannot nor should win that battler against a 300 lb plus DT though.

a very physical running back against our middle linebacker that should be playing on the outside *his natural position* instead.

Where is all this "outside linebacker is his natural position" nonsense coming from? He's played inside since he was in high school. 247 had him listed as an OLB his junior season but if you watch all of his highlight videos he's always in the middle. DK Jr. is a MLB. He's got everything you need a MLB to have.

Can't we just chalk this up to Kelly being an absolute beast in a smaller guys body? He's proven it time and time again since he's been on the team. And has anybody seen the clip? There are a lot of different ways it could have gone down and we're going crazy about a guy saying that he won an impressive rep. If JK barely edged him or even rolled over on him at the end, I would consider that an impressive win. Calm it down.

Not saying that at all, lol, just making an observation. Already wrote I'm writing off Kelly whipping DKJr as a one time fluke rep...but it shouldn't happen again

Have you ever participated in a CoL drill?

Have you ever participated in a CoL drill?

Yes, many times, you? Circle of life, Burma road, Oklahoma drill, etc.

For crying out loud, all I'm saying is I want my middle linebacker to handle my smallish, all be him tough running back. That's a crazy concept on VN for some reason. Wow.

I have. So you know that one slip, one misstep and you're done. Hell, I planted a 6'3, 280 pound OG that had 3 inches and 75 pounds because he took a bad step. No WAY that **** should have ever happened. I know you said it but we tend to overvalue that one rep when in reality, anything could have happened and it means very little.

As you noted, ive already written it off to a bad fluke rep....just shouldn't happen again.

This concerns me more about our defense than gets me hyped over our offense

Could not agree more because the Defense is supposed to be ahead of the O at this point in the game but they are nowhere near. I think this is concerning but again we are back to the Glass half full / Glass half empty look at it. :ermm:

Defense is supposed to be ahead of offense in scheme installation/play-calling....not necessarily one on one battles of physical strength and leverage.

COL is about nothing more than 'juice' and competitiveness.

All this COL is about initial balance and leverage... Any kid out there with even a single season of middle school or high school wrestling will get the better of a larger opponent... using the other person's momentum is half the battle once the initial impact is over...
With that being said I still do not like Kirkland getting whipped... was probably a balance thing where he came in too high and too fast and Kelly used it to his advantage, but he better learn from it and not let it happen again.... He comes in high and full of steam like that in a game and he will get yanked to the side or will whiff a tackle. Center and balance your feed on impact.
I think TKjr has been enjoying his leisure time too much by the looks of his Instagram and maybe this will remind him of why he is there... I still think he is carrying too much weight

So Kirkland's a bust?
Just trying to see a point to your statement

Where did I say he's a bust? I said two things and two things only...

1. That's a bit of a concern. No way your "smallish" RB should be handling your MLB in a drill like that

and

2. Gonna write it off as just a single fluke rep.

At what point and how did you get that I think DKJrs a bust? It's one surprising rep, let's write it off as that. I personally want to see my very athletic, much larger middle linebacker win every such rep vs a talented and tenacious, but very smaller running back. Kinda like I'd want to see my best DT or DE win every drill like this vs my TE.

you guys are rediculous to get concerned over 1 meaningless spring rep in the circle of life. trey smith winning his rep doesnt make him an all american and DK losing his doesnt mean he sucks now. Relax

It is the body type of rb's. they're freaks of nature when it comes to leg strength, especially in the thighs. When Travis Henry was here her could squat over 800 lbs.
