RuckerReally, really good energy on #Vols practice field today.
Patrick BrownIn one of the more hilarious practice moments of the season, Tennessee's players collectively groaned when music was switched to Flo Rida.
Jesse SimontonDuring Tennessee's 'Circle of Life' drill today, OL Austin Sanders completely manhandled DE Jonathan Kongbo during one rep. Team went nuts.
The green brigade was fairly limited, though the Vols clearly were missing several key players. Malik Foreman, Stephen Griffin, and Darrin Kirkland Jr. were the primary Vols who donned the no-contact jerseys.
Perhaps most interesting was that both Jack Jones and Coleman Thomas worked at center with starting quarterback Joshua Dobbs, though Tennessee had Thomas as its starting center and Venzell Boulware as its right guard along with the other three linemen who closed last weeks win against Kentucky.
Tennessee did ratchet up competition in the return game, with Marquez Callaway, Josh Smith, Emmanuel Moseley, Cameron Sutton and even Nigel Warrior getting some reps on kickoff return.
BriceButch Jones opened practice with some Circle of Life battles immediately after the stretch period, with the days two highlights coming from perhaps surprising sources. Big Charles Mosley annihilated his competitor, after Ryan Johnson also had produced an early win, and then Austin Sanders absolutely obliterated Jonathan Kongbo. It was as decisive a Circle win as any in recent memory.
Jones put the Vols through the Circle of Life to start Tuesdays practice, and thats usually a good way to get the engine revved a bit. Perhaps the most memorable matchup was junior guard Austin Sanders blasting sophomore defensive lineman Jonathan Kongbo, but the team got fired up after several different matchups.
The biggest change I noticed Tuesday was freshman safety Nigel Warrior getting reps during kickoff return drills, joining freshman cornerback Marquill Osborne, sophomore running back John Kelly and sophomore safety Micah Abernathy.
RuckerThe first-team offensive line during O-line vs. D-line drills was, from left to right, redshirt freshman Drew Richmond, junior Jashon Robertson, junior Coleman Thomas, redshirt freshman Venzell Boulware and junior Brett Kendrick. The second-team offensive line was, from left to right, someone in a scout-team jersey I didnt recognize, Sanders, sophomore Jack Jones, freshman Ryan Johnson and freshman Marcus Tatum.
CallahanSenior cornerback Malik Foreman, sophomore safety Stephen Griffin and sophomore linebacker Darrin Kirkland Jr. all wore green, non-contact jerseys despite recently having returned to the lineup. Foreman and Griffin both played Saturday against Kentucky after missing multiple games.
Tennessee again worked on special teams during the first periods of Tuesdays practice, and the Vols group of punt returners consisted of freshman wide receiver Marquez Callaway, senior cornerback Cameron Sutton, junior cornerback Emmanuel Moseley and redshirt junior wide receiver Josh Smith.
Safety Todd Kelly, Jr. and Dylan Weisman are both battling ankles sprains and both are day to day at this point. Jack Jones, Coleman Thomas and Jashon Robertson got the early practice work along the offensive interior.
HubbsWith Josh Dobbs and Cam Sutton leading stretch, head coach Butch Jones was looking to get some early juice going on the practice field asking for some energy music. The selection of one song drew some groans from the players during stretch. But the juices got going when Jones put the team in the Circle of Life Drill and Austin Sanders had a clear win over Jonathan Kongbo. Charles Moseley also appeared to get a win as well as a defensive tackle.
One other note, Alexis Johnson who hasn't played in weeks was running on the side as the plan appears for him to redshirt.
Jesse Simonton* Several notable veterans were not at practice Tuesday. The media is not allowed to report who was not there, though.
