Practice Thread - Friday, 7pm EST

Glad to hear that he seems to be okay. Is practice still going on? I just clicked on the stream, and it's not working.

I just now joined guys. Sounds like Paige is okay. It also sounds like Hardesty and Creer were studs and our QB's looked pretty sloppy. Anything else?

That was fun to go to.

I never went to a Fulmer practice so I cannot compare to how his were done. But that thing tonight was high energy from the get go. Crompton fumbled the very first center/QB exchange of the night and followed up the rest of the night looking just as horrible as last year. I'll be amazed if they get that kid turned around. I think Toney Williams looks like a good young back but it is hard to gauge as everything is not full contact.

Moore just said that Paige was moving his limbs and talking, so I'm thinking he should be fine, and its just like a concussion they're being cautious about, but I'm not medical professional.

Williams looked really good to me though.

Also Vereen got hurt on the very first drill. Did anyone notice if he came back in? He was grabbing his shoulder

I'll add that I can't imagine Brent Vinson ever making it through an entire season healthy. Was he supposed to be 100% coming into spring? He was the first guy hurt tonight. He went out but came back. But the shoulder is still hurting him.

The whole team is surrounding him now. Sirens in the background...

How did B.J. look?

Up and down. He'd make some decent throws, and then miss his receiver the next throw. I remember one play (don't know if the plays were designed to go to one receiver and not read progressions) he threw to a guy double covered while it looked like the drag over the middle was wide open. Crompton looked better to me this year than last. He hit a good seam route and most passes were catchable. I can't say BJ was head and shoulders over JC, but if there was a game tomorrow, I'd lean towards BJ based on tonight.

I went to the practice tonight and it was awesome!!! So intense, fight broke out and CEO got in between them and was holding his own big time. Kiffin was running around like a crazy person, he's pretty fast I might add.

Crompton had to run a lap after his fumble. Bryce Brown walked in with Lacey Pearl.

Some guy got hurt while diving for a catch in the endzone and slide into the brick wall. I hope he is ok.

Great night!!!

Missed the practice, who stood out on offense/defense ?

Any early enrollee freshmen stand out ?

A few standouts to me were
Tony Williams (EE)
Creer
All of our WRs in terms of downfield blocking
Mike Edwards (EE) played decently from what I saw of him
Eric Berry had an easy pick

RB. He looked great in the early drills. I'm not sure about the second half of practice since I left when it started raining.

Are you talking about the DB from Ohio? He didn't enroll early did he? If he did, it is news to me.

What a fun practice to watch! I am still worried about Paige though.. Hope he gets better.

Any news from BRANDON WARREN?

Practice Report: Kiffin said he was pleased with the scrimmage, in particular UT’s defense.
“I thought the defense really, really picked it up and came with a lot of energy,” Kiffin said. “I thought they took it to the offense a little bit early, especially in the passing game with the pass rush.”
A chess match ensued. In order to slow UT’s pass rush, the offensive coaches countered with a battery of screen passes and relied more on the running game, led by tailback Montario Hardesty.
“I did think the offense ran the ball extremely well,” Kiffin said. “Hardesty had a ton of yards today, a lot of long runs. The guys did really well for him up front.”
Kiffin said Hardesty has been a leader in offseason conditioning and film study.
“It’s a great story anytime you have a guy that has worked so hard in the offseason,” Kiffin said. “He’s not been an issue at all. I think he was one of the first guys to buy in to what we were doing.”
Laps: Like quarterback B.J. Coleman on Thursday, Crompton was forced to run a lap around the field with center Josh McNeil following a fumbled snap on Friday.
“The ball is so valuable,” Kiffin said. “Turnover margin is how you win and lose games more than anything else that you do.”
Kiffin implements the punishment for any player who fumbles a snap or is called for offsides or a false start.
Some boos were heard from the crowd when Crompton turned the ball over, likely a carryover from UT’s disappointing 5-7 season in 2008.
“You’re seeing them in their third day in the system so we have a lot of practices left just in the spring,” Kiffin said. “The last thing we want to do is say somebody can’t do something right now.”
Vinson’s Shoulder: Cornerback Brent Vinson left practice early with a bum left shoulder. Vinson could have returned and is thought to be fine.
