Practice/Team Update.

Jackson isn't going anywhere. play just one more year and he will be getting paid millions to play on Sundays. it'll be stupid to sit out a year.

his comment in no way is suggesting a transfer. JJ more apt to be asked to leave than to leave on his own, well he could leave on his own but not to transfer. JJ has is own agenda and it is not always in synch with the programs agenda.

Good God, our defense is gonna be very poor next year......
Much worse than this year imo, especially with all the attrition.
Coaching change, players leaving (either through graduation - LBs, or quitting)
Not to mention the possibility of recruits decommiting.....
At least the offense will be better!

I know I'm a newbie...but who is de-committing? It seems like all of our recruits are pretty solid....(I lurk and read A LOT)..

I don't think Wilcox hurts us if he goes. I mean will there be some scheme weaknesses? SURE...but his personality conflicts with guys on the staff who are hands down more valuable as coaches and members of the "team" is enough for me to say "see-ya"...

We're going to be better on both sides of the ball....

You have any details Larry? This would hurt our defense badly. This staff needs to straighten him up and hold on to him.

He does have a vrey serious family situation going on right now is why he is at home. huge distraction at the moment.

As far as his future, since he has arrived in Knoxville he has been on thin ice with many off the field issues. Doesn't do any good for me to list things I've heard about. Doesn't help program or JJ.

Think of the public incidents and just know behind the scenes things are happening far too often.. Never know what he might do from day to day...could be big (Pilot) or small (taking something not his from someone else).

Poole has a sprained right ankle. He is walking with a noticeable limp.

Still no Oku at practice but the coaches don't seem worried. It is questionable if Oku returns. Just like all season, he is still in CDD's doghouse.

M. Hughes will need to bust his butt in school to stay eligible. He is really close to flunking out.

Keep your eyes open and watch for Meline, Simms, and Toney Williams to possibly transfer. If Oku leaves the team then Williams will probably stay. Simms really wants to leave but he doesn't have many options.

I know I am gonna catch hell for this one but Dooley could careless if Wilcox leaves, even if Wilcox sticks around for another year. Wilcox isn't planning on being here much longer. Jackson still is in Louisiana. The coaches and team are hopeful he arrives in Nashville sometime Sunday. Fans should approach every game that Jackson plays as his last. Alot of people within the staff and team are surprised Jackson has made it this far. Jackson's situation is very interesting but I can't go into details.

Edit: Forgot to add that Wilcox is not the best recruiter. Chavis was hands down better. Wilcox doesn't seem to dedicate enough time to recruit the way he should.

OKu is dead weight at this point.

I thought Dooley said everyone was on track to be academically cleared to play in the bowl game (this does not suprise me though).

I would much rather have Williams on the team than Oku. Before he got hurt he was pretty dang good.

Phil Simms is a loser for telling the coaches "off" for starting the better QB.

GTFO Wilcox, and take your lousy recruiting, and shatty game plans with you HO!!!

GBO, Best of luck Dooley, Vols, and everyone on staff not named wilcocks

Thanks for the update Zasnow.

I'm not saying anyone is gonna decommit, but there is always a chance.... NSD is still 1 1/2 months away, alot can happen for the good and bad.
I don't think Wilcox leaving is a bad idea IF we upgrade, but that would still be our 4th DC in 4 years, which is a problem in itself and definitely won't help a program. We need some stability.

It does appear that Oku is on his way back to UT and will be at practice tomorrow. Will know for sure then.

Spot on. Ur 100% accurate. The majority of Vol fans wouldn't want JJ here if they knew what all he has done or alleged to do.

Should have been more in depth about Simms. The coaches think Simms will stick it out until Worley beats him for the backup spot. This could possibly be in the spring. Then Simms will more than likely leave.

My heart goes out to Simms, the poor guy. Played the toughest part of the schedule this season, took a heck a beating and lots of blame for a struggling offense, and then just gets tossed aside. It is clear that he is not the best option and should be the backup, I just feel bad for him.

He played hard for us against very good teams, and I think the fans should cut him a little slack for his attitude. It would be difficult not to be disappointed and upset considering what happened.

Well, chit!! Thanks for the update tho Zas!!

Like everyone, I hope JJ stays, I keep he hearing we have 1 legitimate SEC starter, and he's the only one that comes to mind! Needs to get over hisself, and start thinking about the future rather than the now. Seems like he enjoys hisself on the field tho.

I still can't belive Meline's redshirt was burnt, and he has not seen anymore playtime than he has. Seriously, how hard is it??

Oku and Simms, could care less.

Simms should stay, be a back up, and help the team by teaching the young guys about the offense. He could have a future in Coaching and it would be a good start. He must realize there is no NFL in his future, so back up role leading to coaching is his best ticket. TN is a good place to get that started.

Chavis a better recruiter than Wilcox? Wilcox must be pretty bad because the chief never wanted to leave Knoxville and go on a recruiting trip. Not saying you are right or wrong, but this comment is really a stretch. JMO.

I know that we had some great defensive players in the 90s, but the quality really fell off the cliff this decade. I don't know if both scenarios relate to Chavis or not, but he was the DC during these periods.

I agree. Transferring to a FCS schoold does nothing for him at this point. Even if he blows it up CJ Boleman style, the scouts will just judge his work by the comptetition he's played and I didn't see anything this year to indicate he's ready for the next level. Finishing school and preparing for the next phase of life should be his focus.
