Does anybody know for sure if our team practiced today? Mr Hurd had an interesting tweet. For those of you that follow him on twitter you can verify it. His tweet..."Who got practice on Christmas..."

Dimarya Mixon also tweeted something about how they were getting to the bowl game. His tweet.."so we couldnt just fly to the bowl like almost every other team or is it just me"

So are we taking buses or something?

Could be nothing but i havent seen players complaining about football related issues until this.

I think Mixon's complaint is that the team is flying from Knoxville together which is probably part of the reason they had practice today. A person tweeted him asking how the team was getting there and he replied with emoticons of planes. I would be shocked if they were taking buses.

Yes coaches had staff meetings and player meetings, then they practiced at 5 pm today I believe. They fly out as a team tomorrow evening. Trainers and other crew leave overnight to set up stuff before team arrives. It kind of sucks for everybody involved but the team had 5 days off.

Most teams used to meet at the bowl site, now most teams do what Tennessee is doing, which is to meet back on campus and travel as a team to the bowl site. The trade-off is that the players get one fewer day at home.

It is what it is, players can complain, but it's what most coaches and teams do now.

Players also don't get the travel allowance pay if they drove on their own.

Get used to complaints. Players now have the control. I suspect they will put and end to practice and travel on Christmas soon.

Good info, DP.

I know back in the day the players flew into the bowl site. This seems more controlled.

I'd be pissed too. I feel like they could've stayed an extra day or something so as to Be with family on Xmas day.

So does that hurt their money they used to make car pooling together if some teammates lived in say Atlanta area and wanted to ride together to Tampa? They used to get the round trip cost of the flight if they did that and chip in on gas and make some decent money.

Most bowls require the team to be there six days ahead of the game, so they have to be in Tampa tomorrow morning regardless. If they were traveling on their own, they'd still be leaving on Christmas.

Whatever. If you're mad about this, you're looking for something to be mad about.

These are 18-23 year old kids. They will always have something to complain about, it is just that Twitter has now given them a public voice before they use their brains.

I wouldn't be surprised if coaches had a little talk to the players about "think before you tweet".

I saw the Hurd tweet and thought nothing of it. Sometimes, having responsibility means you have to do things you don't necessarily want to do. I am also not surprised that they have the guys travel as team, stay in a hotel as a team, and do events as a team because that is why they are going to Tampa, Florida in a January 1st bowl game, to play football as a team.

I can completely understand the school not wanting to leave arriving on time and at the right location completely up to the player. There is a lot of travel itinerary that has to be organized for that many people. Can you imagine how much more difficult it would be with certain players traveling on their own or deciding at the last minute to change what they want to do.

For example, kid says he's flying with the team. School books tickets, meals, etc. for said player. Player is from Miami, Florida. Decides on Christmas Eve that he just really doesn't want to go all the way back to Tennessee when he can travel a few hours north to Tampa and spend an extra two days with his family and friends. Now the school's out that money and time wasted planning for him. Plus, all the other stuff that could go wrong in-route to the bowl location. Coaches don't need to be wasting time looking for this player or that player.

You want to play in a bowl game for the University of Tennessee, get some cool "bowl swag", enjoy a week of activities and spending time with your teammates, and play on national television on New Year's Day?! Then QYB.

I'd practice every Christmas for the rest of my life, if it meant that I had the ability and opportunity to do what these guys are doing right now.

All that said, I think we adults take twitter WAY more serious than teens these days mean for it to be taken. They see a simple complaint, we see a "public outcry of injustice". They've grown up with it and it's just another way to express their opinions.

Sorry but his often used statement is a bunch of crap. It ranks right up there with..... Id give my left nut to blah, blah, blah. Again, JMO.

If they want to play in the league they need to get used to it. Unless Christmas falls on a Tuesday or Wednesday chances are they will be traveling or playing on one of those days. Just like NBA players. Part of it
