Practice 8

Not trying to be a sunshine pumper but it seems like Butch hit homeruns with Beard, Wells, and Warren. They all seem to be really hands on and the players seem to love them.

Exactly, I love the hires should see results this year.

Does anyone know if they have started working on defending GA Tech's triple option offense yet?

It seems to me that the sooner they start practicing for it the better.

I think Justin Martin becomes a star this year.

I believe they showed some in the defensive drills video. They had the guys latch on and use hands to separate after the cut block

I believe Butch is so paranoid of injuries he is resting the guys that look ready. In addtion, he is able to get some backups ready as well.

Have you guys noticed the power Dormady has behind his throws? His release has some crazy power behind it

Got to practice some though, yes it is a balancing act but you need reps to be ready. GBO!!!!

Josh ward and a few others were drooling over warrior last year pretty much daily on the vol report

It was coaching malpractice that Martinez and Shoop didn't get him ready to play as a freshman. Head and shoulders more athletic and explosive than our other safeties imo and we desperately needed his athletic ability on the back end to help erase all the issues/mistakes going on with the front 7.

Butch talking about changing up practices due to Oline injuries. Seriously, Our Oline is our lifeblood this season. We are dead in the water without an Oline. One day, we are going to have a well developed, mature (NO FRESHMAN), deep Oline, and that will be the day we play up to our potential.

There were NO FRESHMEN playing last year on the OL with the exception of Tatum for less than a half vs Bama. We're laden with juniors and seniors this year and no freshmen will play (Trey Smith) unless he's just much better than all the upperclassmen who have been in the program 3-4 years.

Can't speak for Wells or Beard but I know kids and parents love Warren.

He recruited a family friend of mine while at UNC (he ended up at a high power 5 school) and the whole reason he considered UNC was due to Warren.

Never heard anything negative about Warren. He's a good one.

Our projected 2 deep

LT 51 Richmond, Drew RS SO 63 Kendrick, Brett RS SR
LG 66 Jones, Jack JR 70 Johnson, Ryan RS FR
OC 75 Robertson, Jashon SR 55 Thomas, Coleman SR
RG 73 Smith, Trey FR 50 Boulware, Venzell RS SO
RT 76 Hall, Chance JR 68 Tatum, Marcus SO

Jack Jones is apparently unreliable and Our right side is down to Boulware. So where is all that projected depth and senior laden line now?

I am so sick of Oline problems... so sick of it! I don't know how much longer I can do this! You HAVE TO HAVE a mature reliable Oline 2 deep.

Well, Hall is gone for the year. I thought Jack Jones played very well when he was on the right side. Kid has a big motor. But I agree, we really need this O Line to be able to push people around this year.

I'm not sure Knox news and others are reporting on this accurately. I haven't heard from the staff that these guys are injured. What I've heard is that there is about one week of summer school left and guys have papers due and exams and stuff like that and it's affecting their availability for practice. Maybe I need to get my hearing checked because I haven't heard that we have injuries to these guys.

From the article linked:

Tennessee's football scrimmage schedule might change because of injuries on the offensive line, UT coach Butch Jones said on Tuesday. (I don't think he said it was because of injuries on the offensive line and I listened to that segment again just to be sure)

Brett Kendrick returned for an afternoon practice at Haslam Field. But fellow linemen Trey Smith and Marcus Tatum remained sidelined. Jones, who said last Friday that Smith and Tatum were out but didn't specify why, said he expects both players to be back "very shortly."
